The Mid-Lakes Orchid Society will have its 10th annual orchid auction, rain or shine, from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday or until all orchids are sold, at the Roger's Park pavilion near Venetian Gardens in Leesburg. Parking is near the Leesburg Woman's Club Building on Ninth Street.
Cold soft drinks will be available for purchase.
Members will bring plants to sell, along with donated plants from local orchid vendors.
Orchid professionals use proceeds from the auction to cover expenses of lectures at club meetings throughout the year. Read more

Help available for high-school seniors in arts
YoungARTS, an annual program of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, is accepting applications in nine categories: dance, cinematic arts, classical music, jazz music, photography, theater, visual arts, voice and writing.
Eligible artists must be high-school seniors during the 2007-08 school year or 17 or 18 years old by Dec. 1.
Participants compete for up to $10,000 cash, scholarships and nomination as a Presidential Scholar in the Arts.
