Posted: Today at 10:01 a.m. Updated: Today at 5:42 p.m. RODANTHE, N.C. - Gov. Bev Perdue declared a state of emergency Monday for Dare County to help residents there get financial help to clean up after recent flooding.

The N.C. Department of Transportation opened one lane of N.C. 12 north of Rodanthe to two-way traffic at 3 p.m. today.

The NC Department of Transportation's Ferry Division announced Monday it is activating the Stumpy Point-Rodanthe route for emergency purposes.

A temporary ferry service will begin between Rodanthe and Stumpy Point on Tuesday morning to help people move around the closed portion of N.C. 12.

All organizations had to do was prove to the government their restoration project deserved it and The North Carolina Coastal Federation did just that.
