I, too, looked ahead to the Cranberry Festival with much anticipation. Long a lover of all things cranberry, we stumbled across Warrens as a side trip while taking the "Great River Road" drive last summer. So, after a visit to the Cranberry Discovery Center, we decided to return to WI in the fall for the Cranberry Festival. I was much disappointed to find that I would not witness the cranberry harvest. It seems that the festival is such a boon to local revenue that everyone remotely associated with cranberries participates in some manner at the festival-thus no harvesting until it is over. So to my great sadness, as I was winging my way home to Texas, the harvesting was only just beginning. Maybe next time I will skip the outrageous crowds (rain, too this year) and go a week later to see the harvest. I did enjoy a great festival and pick-your-own apples over in Gays Mills, saw many wonderful produce markets (Pecks is terrific) so my trip wasn't a total waste.
