A Harlan County School bus carrying students home from Harlan County High School on Friday afternoon suffered a mechanical failure that sent the driver of another vehicle to the hospital for possible injuries.

Marauding elk had been trampling gardens, grazing on lawns and causing car crashes on the twisting country road that winds its way through Stoney Fork.

Two Harlan County men were arrested Wednesday by Kentucky State Police in unrelated cases on charges of distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor and possession of matter of portraying a sexual performance by a minor.

He was born Jan. 14, 1952, at Red Bird, and was the son of the late Robert and Jessie Helton.

Two Bell County School buses and a tractor-trailer were involved in an accident Thursday afternoon in Stoney Fork.
