A 90-year-old Staten Island man severely mauled by two pit bulls last month has died.
Henry Piotrowski's death Sunday night means prosecutors are likely to pursue more serious charges against the dogs' owners.
The man was attacked by the pit bulls in his backyard on July 1. Doctors had to amputate one of his legs. The World War II veteran had been in the hospital since the attack.
The dogs were euthanized. Their owners, James McNair and Kim DiPrima, have been indicted on felony assault and other charges for failing to keep the dogs restrained.
