We have lived in Standish for over 14 years, not a single prisoner housed at the Max prison has escaped.People need to get off Gov.Granholm's case;she got elected after Gov.Engler put us in debt.Keep the prison open! Even if it saves only a few jobs;that is more than will be there if it closes.Bring the Gitmo prisoners here,if necessary. Most people around would enjoy the target pratice if any of them did escape.

Do you really want to sell your soul to the Devil for a few jobs?
This is not a good way to put Standish on the map.
The residents will be living in fear of their lives while only a few benefit.
Think about it.

I am amazed that one of the greedy unethical politicians in the Florida Panhandle hasn't put in a bid to get the prisoners.

IN THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE THE SLOGAN SHOULD READ WILL DO ANYTHING FOR A BUCK!

I don't think that any of the Florida Panhandle Politicians would object to "Selling their souls to the devil" They do that daily!

I am a Psy. D. forensic psychologist [retired]. There is no logical reason not to bring the GTMO detainees to your prison. Do you think that they are so skinny that they will slip through the bars? If it saves jobs, then it is good. I doubt that you have less savory characters there already. After all, you are max security. Are murders, rapists, and sexual predators any better than suspected terrorists? My experiences working in this discipline tells me that there would be no more danger than if these people are accepted. Many of them were probably just in the wrong place at the wrong time. And remember, these people are DETAINEES and have not, as yet been convicted of anything. Dr. RJS

Think about it.
The friends/coharts of these prisoners will takeover a town and trade their hostages for the prisoners being held...
Blood is thicker than water, the families and friends of these un-tried prisoners are coming to the states according to this article;
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) September-- The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad on Thursday announced a "special immigrant visa program" that provides "safe haven" for Iraqis whose lives are threatened because of their work for the United States.
The program makes 5,000 visas available each year for the next five years to Iraqis who are "under threat as a consequence of their employment by or on behalf of the U.S. government in Iraq," the embassy said in a statement on its Web site.
The State Department says the new program is "completely distinct" from another visa program for translators and interpreters.
"With the launch of this special immigrant program, we take a significant step toward fulfilling our obligation of providing safe haven for those brave Iraqi citizens who risked their lives in order to serve the United States and a free Iraq," said U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker.
"The tremendous sacrifices that they and their families have made deserve our recognition and support. I am pleased that this special immigrant visa program is now available to reward their loyal service to the United States."
The embassy statement said applicants must have been "employed in good standing by the U.S. government, or on behalf of the U.S. government, for at least one year after March 20, 2003. They must have experienced or be experiencing an ongoing serious threat as a result of U.S. government employment."
The embassy says "spouses and minor unmarried children of principal applicants are eligible for the same immigrant visa without counting toward the annual cap of 5,000 per year."
Iraqis working "for private contractors on behalf of the U.S. government are also eligible."
