Overcrowding in your jail is caused by your welcoming committee parked in the middle of I95. It is very evident that Camden County residents don't care. Corruption runs throughout the jail. Inmates are supplied drugs by the guards. All out brawls are wagered on by the guards. Conditions are well known in the jailbird community that Camden Co GA jail is the worst conditions ever experienced. One fact is that the sheriff's department enjoys dragging out their processes to "prove a point" to inmates. Court days are delayed due to the untimely processing of paperwork.

Come on. Camden County residents need to travel outside of their little world and realize that it is 2009. Even the local motel staffs joke about the "good ole boy" network that exists. I would be an appaulled if I was a resident of this area. A very bad reputation for such a visual community.

I just can't wait until your greeting committee "apprehends" the wrong person. Their time is coming.

So, you are saying that the actual guards provide drugs to inmates!? Are you kidding? There might be a bad jailer or two, but to make that claim--your nuts! I don't like BFT or any of his command staff and can't waiting to vote his behind out of office, but your nuts! I do agree that in my opion BFT is trying to over crowd the jail to get his agenda passed.

anon2 this is anon3 your talking out your arse, I don't know what your smoking or who you been talking to, but your honked up as a soup sandwitch, that kind of nonsense would not be tolerated in that overcrowded jail, any guard caught doing anything like that would be added to the present population and sent up the road.

This would solve the problem. Ahh... if only there were more like Sheriff Arpaio! One of the few real men left it seems. PC is so out of control it's stupid.

Arpaio set up a "Tent City" as an extension of the Maricopa County Jail. Tent City is located in a yard next to a more permanent structure containing toilets, showers, an area for meals, and a day room. It has become notable particularly because of Phoenix's extreme temperatures. Daytime temperatures inside the tents have been reported as high as 150 °F (65 °C) in the top bunks. During the summer, fans and water are supplied in the tents.

During the summer of 2003, when outside temperatures exceeded 110 °F (43 °C), which is higher than average, Arpaio said to complaining inmates, "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and the soldiers are living in tents, have to wear full body armor, and they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your mouths." Inmates were given permission to wear only their pink underwear.

BFT is afraid he'd get sue'd, but It would work and I guaranty, the repeaters would do their best to not return, like they do now

Your gonna get sued no matter what as long as you refuse to let inmates bond out. He has misdemeanor inmates in jail and that should never happen unless you want them to stay in jail. He is trying to prove a point and taxpayer will pay the cost for his stupidity

That is quite an accusation to say the guards are supplying drugs to the inmates.

It is sad that our own Commissioner is not against the metal building expansion. It is also sad that the commissioners are willing to dessercrate the courthouse square with such a horrendous building in the name of saving money, when in fact, this will cost us more in the long run. How does building a 1.5 million dollar building, that will be full when built, just to have to then start looking for a place to put another as soon as possible make sense? This is the lack of leadership that plagues not just us, but the entire country.

They were ok with building the Commissioners building behind the old Courthouse but not a new jail. Hmmmm which ones is needed the most. Metal building is not the answer We need a Sheriff that knows what he's doing and it will all work the way it should then. 2012

Bill had misdemeanor inmates in jail. Hell, he even changed bond amounts to a higher amount after they were set by a judge. Where was you outrage then?

It make sense because if some type of temporary fix is not done very quickly, then a federal district court judge will be ordering Camden to build a new jail, that will cost us 40 - 50 million dollars ( no splost dollars ) and your taxes will go up 4 or 5 times to pay for it.
The Woodbine commissioner knows this and is trying to find a solution that will not tax us out of our homes. I call that good leadership and I am one taxpayer that appreciates it.

That's what BFT is good for. To blame everyone else for everything that is not right. He's had plenty of time to do good things. But that is not what he wants. He's going to show everyone that he is SHERIFF,and it will be done his way.All I can say, is enjoy it while you can BFT, cause it won"t last.

The list of problems, past and current, like the current jail situation, that are directly the result of the piss poor management of Smith is long and many could have been avoided with just a small amount of effort on his part. But he was only interested in his personal agenda, and that is why he will be remembered as the worst public servant in the history of Camden County .
