25 years ago today, 1984: About 150 jobs at Clark Material Handling Products Co. in Springfield will be eliminated gradually through early 1986 as a new lift-truck line goes into production. From that point, company officials are betting that employment will stabilize and perhaps even start growing. Job reductions will result from improved manufacturing processes and the startup of a new lift truck line next year involving Springfield and Georgetown, Ky. 50 years ago today, 1959: George G., 59, of Route 8, pleaded guilty this week to a charge of assault and battery on his wife and paid a $10 fine. Mr. G. today said he and his wife had an argument Sunday and he took her across his lap and slapped her. Mrs. G. is on probation from Circuit Court following a conviction of wounding her husband with a shotgun several months ago. 100 years ago today, 1909: Battle Creek is in for its share of the general prosperity now prevailing in this country according to the current issue of 'American Industries.' A carefully prepared table published by the magazine shows the food industry in which Battle Creek is vitally interested is in a very prosperous condition.
