A Stafford County man was seriously injured Friday during a high-speed chase that began when deputies tried to arrest him on a misdemeanor charge. Gary Moneymaker, 36, flipped his vehicle in Spotsylvania County near the Massaponax exit on Interstate 95 and was ejected, police said.

The Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors has selected a local contractor to build the parking lot for the county's Virginia Railway Express station. At Tuesday's meeting the board accepted the lowest bid of $7.3 million from Stafford County-based Henderson Construction Inc. The work will include a 1,500-space parking lot for commuters and changes to the entrance to the Crossroads Industrial Park at the intersection of Benchmark Road and the U.S. 17 Bypass.

Spotsylvania OKs battlefield development After lengthy public...
After a lengthy public hearing Tuesday, the Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors approved a 218-home development on part of the Chancellorsville battlefield off State Route 3. The 25 people who spoke at the hearing were just about split on the 1,097-acre Legends of Chancellorsville subdivision. The supervisors voted 5-2 in favor of the project, which will be on the north side of Route 3, about 1.5 miles west of the intersection of Route 3 and Elys Ford Road.

Keep free speech alive at public meetings
I read with interest the article that appeared in a recent Free Lance-Star about the Spotsylvania Planning Commission wanting security at future meetings to protect them from harsh words. I was at that meeting, and the only person who needed security was Mr. Howard, the speaker who was duly chastised by the board chairman for exercising his First Amendment right of free speech.

Spotsylvania County deputies have arrested three suspects, after they stole over $200,000 in merchandise from a home located in Twin Springs Estates. According to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff Office, Paul White, 27 of Spotsylvania; John Richardson III, 27 of Spotsylvania and Blake Brightwell, 28 of Fredericksburg were arrested by detectives on Friday.
