Thurston Manufacturing Co. of Thurston, Neb., says it has purchased Simonsen Iron Works of Spencer, Iowa, and plans to reopen the plant Monday morning.

Spencer Sidewalk Initiative Update
Spencer's sidewalk initiative is moving forward at a brisk pace. At the start of the Spencer put aside up to $100,000 to be used to assist owners of residential properties in town that want to install new sidewalk or replace any existing sidewalk in poor or defective condition.

Fitzpatrick sentenced in Spencer, IA beating death
He faced life behind bars, but thanks to a plea deal, 21-year old Christopher Fitzpatrick's been sentenced to 45-years in prison.
Spencer Clean Up Day
The annual Spencer citywide Spring clean up day will take place on Saturday. Wayne Westhoff started the tradition back in 1976 before being taken over by Spencer Mainstreet in the mid to late 1980's. Mainstreet Director Bob Rose says they will start bright and early at the Legends Events & Social Center for breakfast.

A Spencer, Iowa couple plead guilty to meth conspiracy
The United State's Attorney's office says on May 8th, 50-year-old Vicki Shannon and 46-year-old John Gekas, both from Spencer were convicted of conspiring to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine.

Freeman Building Decision
The Freeman Building in downtown Spencer will stand. On Monday evening the city council voted to sell the structure to Mark and Sheri White for the purpose of opening a vehicle storage business on a split vote of 4-3. Councilmember Steve Bomgaars noted that this issue was handled correctly over the past several months.
