A Camp Lejeune Marine was charged with first-degree arson after setting fire to a door of an occupied home over the weekend, officials said Monday.

Jacksonville Rotary South and the Onslow Literacy Council Reverse Raffle and Live Auction fundraiser is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. this coming Thursday, May 23, at the Infant of Prague Parish Hall.

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office arrested a suspected bank robber in Surf City Thursday around 5:30 p.m., according to a spokesperson with the sheriff's office.

David Allen Sharlow, 39, of Rocksboro, and Kimberly Dawn Pleasant were both taken into custody in Pender County less than four hours after the First Citizens Bank in Sneads Ferry was robbed, Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown said.

Officials from Onslow County Sheriff's Office have verified that a bank robbery has taken place at First Citizens Bank in Sneads Ferry at 960 N.C. 210.

Investigators say the white man shown in a surveillance photo wearing a dark-colored Adidas sweatshirt, a black cap and sunglasses robbed the First Citizens Bank at about 12:55 p.m. Deputies say he left in a dark-colored SUV.

As mail carriers make their rounds Saturday they will also be picking up donations of nonperishable food items residents leave by their mailbox.

"In life you are going to have to put your signature on things, like if you are writing cards, and this weekend is Mother's Day, you want it to be nice," he said.

No arrests have been made in the death of a beloved horse that was shot and killed in Sneads Ferry one year ago today.
