Webster water situation improving slightly

Due to a fast recession of Bayou Dorcheat at Springhill, which crested late yesterday at 20.7 feet, waters have receded enough along State Highway 2 from Sarepta to Shongaloo for the state DOTD to feel comfortable with reopening that roadway, Webster sheriff's spokeswoman Jenny Reynolds says.

Fundraisers are 80 percent toward their goal in helping ill deputy

SHONGALOO - A weekend benefit auction for a Webster sheriff's deputy who is battling cancer raised almost $17,000, putting fundraising organizers about 80 toward their goal of $100,000. The money will be used to purchase and set up a modular home for Deputy Ken Treece and his family.
