My sympathies to the family! I pray that you find peace with Casey's death and have faith that you will be reunited with him in the Lord's timing. You must b so proud to have a son with the goals and ambitions of Casey. This story was beautifully written and seemed to be a tribute rather than just some horrible news. May God bless you all as you grieve. There is a song that helps me through bad times... if you read this, please look at the lyrics of Praise you in this Storm by Casting Crowns.

I read this article and it just breaks my heart and also brings tears! I must say that these parent had a WONDERFUL son, but what really warms my heart is to know that he is in Heaven with the Lord and His Angels! I will be remembering this family in my prayers! It is so sad to hear of all these young deaths lately, but the good news is if they know the Lord, they are in a Better place by far than what we are!

The true cause of death was suicide. He hung himself at the Harford County Detention Center in Bel Air MD.

If he was on a ventilator like the article said he more than likely did die from pneumonia, most people who go on a vent get ventilator complicated pneumonia

This has to be the same kid in both articles. Why in God's name would the PO do their article this way if the Harford article is true? Did the Roscoe not know the truth? Why would the family agree to the PO article? Did they not know the truth? This is truly bizarre.

W T eFF Roscoe?!

A man charged with six counts of first-degree assault tried to kill himself while in custody at the Harford County Detention Center last Friday night. He was taken off life support Wednesday and subsequently died.
Casey T. Briggs, 23, was arrested and charged Oct. 28 after allegedly shooting a gun into the air in front of MaGerks Pub in Bel Air.
Someone called police around 11:30 p.m. Oct. 27 reporting a man standing in the road in front of MaGerks, in the 100 block of Bond Street, shooting a small handgun into the air.
Police said the man, later identified as Briggs, fired a handgun into the air and then pointed the firearm at a car holding four people.
Briggs was arrested in the area of Plumtree Park.
Briggs, of the 10000 Spring Ridge Road in Shippensburg, Pa., was charged with reckless endangerment, first-degree burglary, six counts of first-degree assault, attempted carjacking, illegally having a handgun on his person, using a handgun in a felony or violent crime and allowing firearm access by minors.
He was being held Oct. 29 at the Harford County Detention Center on $250,000 bail.
On Oct. 30, a guard making routine rounds in the detention center, found Briggs hanging in his cell, according to Captain Keith Warner, a spokesperson for the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
“There were no signs that he was suicidal,” Warner said Thursday.
Personnel immediately began aid. Briggs was transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center a short time later.
“At that point he had labored breathing then he went into a coma,” Warner said.
After Briggs was hospitalized, a Harford County District Court judge officially released him from detention center custody, Warner said.
Briggs died Wednesday at Upper Chesapeake.
“At 4:10 p.m. the family decided to take him off life support after talking with his doctors,” Warner said.
This is not the first inmate to die within the past six months following an incident at the detention center.
On June 12, 48-year-old Dwight Jerome Madison was rushed to the hospital following an altercation with detention center personnel.
While going through the intake process at the detention center, Madison allegedly started to fight with two correctional deputies and one civilian employee. He allegedly grabbed and choked one of the deputies during the fight.
A third correctional deputy with a TASER came to the aid of the deputies and other employees. Madison was warned at least twice and was shown the TASER, but he allegedly continued in the struggle.
Madison was hit in the upper leg with the TASER, fell to the floor, and hit his head.
Madison was taken to the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air and then transferred to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where he died June 13.

Or was the sudden illness the violent outburst that resulted in arrest and him hanging himself?

I don't think I've ever been mad at y'all like this before...

If you can't be trusted to be RIGHT (the typos were amusing, but forgivable) and not pull these little 'truth by omission BS that kids play, then you have outlived your purpose.

If its reported as is - it sounds like the parents may have intentionally mislead Roscoe on this one. Not really sure that gets him or the paper off the hook here.

"The cause of death was due to respiratory failure brought on by pneumonia, according to Briggs' father, H. Thomas Briggs Jr."

When you are interviewing a parent for a feature about his deceased son, you trust the parent to be honest with you about the cause of death. Maybe Roscoe should have checked another source just to be certain, but I believe his biggest error was giving a grieving father the benefit of the doubt. It is a shame when a reporter has to double check this type of story for accuracy.

I do not care what charges he had against him.
He was an outstanding character who served his country and ended up having one hell of a bad day that unfortunately ruined his future forever, in his eyes.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Leo

The atmosphere is highly combustible today, with people getting in a stew over the smallest little thing. You will also have a tendency to get hot under the collar, especially if someone isn't doing things as quickly as you'd like. Try to stop yourself getting in a rage because once that happens it will be difficult to cool down again. Maybe you need some fresh air?
