Traffic patterns, aging population indicate growth is slowing

Rapid commercial and residential development has given people more places to live, work and shop in metro-east, but recent information shows that population and traffic growth have slowed and could affect future development.
Research by the East-West Gateway Coordinating Council has found that metro-east households are shrinking and aging. Local traffic patterns indicate the trend as area traffic patterns have grown slower than they did between 1970 and 2000. Recorded vehicle miles traveled are not growing as rapidly as they once did throughout the St. Louis area, and higher gas prices are not the reason. According to the study, the number of miles driven has decreased as a result of shrinking household sizes and an aging population. Read more

Sex offender charged with abduction
“He denied it to the officer, but said a father approached him and accused him of attempting to abduct his child”
A registered child sex offender has been charged with abduction after police said he tried to lure a 10-year-old boy into his car.
Timothy Crosby, 45, of 305 Baltes Drive, Apt. E, in Shiloh, was charged Wednesday in the case.
Crosby recently was featured in a News-Democrat story about convicted sex offenders who live within 500 feet of licensed home day-care centers. Crosby lived near a licensed day care on Baltes Drive -- a few blocks from where police said he tried to abduct the boy. Read more

Religious diversity is a cornerstone of the metro-east history
People tend to think of the metro-east as a Catholic area. The church is strong here but there is a wide range of religions in the area and an even bigger supply of religious opinions.
