Shannon to allow students to use personal devices at school
The Lee County School Board on Tuesday approved a pilot program at the school that will allow students to use personal electronic devices. Superintendent Jimmy Weeks said many of those devices have educational uses.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS was awarded his first career NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series victory Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in the Cliff Williams Plumbing Trak-Star after apparent winner Ronny Lee Hollingsworth of Northport, AL was light at the scales after the 40-lap main event.
Johnson takes sixth NeSmith DLMS victory at Jackson
The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN zeroed in on his second straight $20,000 series title with his sixth win of the season on Friday night during night one of the Delta Dirt Nationals at Jackson Motor Speedway in the River Rumble 40 driving the NeSmith Chevrolet Special.

A warehouse fire Monday night will put a small damper on production at one of United Furniture's Okolona locations this week.
Man charged with murder in Tupelo shooting
The shooting took place in the North Green Street and Rogers Lane area, and the victim, Eugene Simmons, 51, of Shannon, was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds.
