Senath-Hornersville Board bans cell phones from campus
School improvements, increased lunch fees, no cell phones, and a new counselor were the major topics of the Senath School Board meeting on Thursday.
After the approval of previous minutes and bills, Superintendent Larry Wood gave his report on the happenings at Senath-Hornersville Schools this summer. According to Wood's report, the elementary school has received new tile in the cafeteria and will have a new roof by August 1.
The middle school library has received a new paint job, new lighting, and has been remodeled. The middle school gymnasium floor was refinished and has had the school mascot painted at center court.
The high school gymnasium floor was also refinished.
Wood assured the board that everything will be ready to go by August 1.
Following the superintendent's report, the board moved on to new business.
After much debate, the Senath School Board voted unanimously to raise the price of school lunches by 25 cents, up to $1.25 for students and $1.75 for adults. The decision came about as a means to cut down on the loss the school suffered on last year's food costs.
Another main item on the agenda was the new cell phone policy. Beginning this school year, no cellular phones will be allowed on the campus. With the advent of new technologies on the phones such as cameras and video recorders, the state of Missouri suggested this new policy to try to avoid unwanted photos and videos from appearing on the Internet.
The board voted unanimously to accept this policy after an unwanted summer school video appeared on a popular video website.
During the executive session, the board decided to hire a new elementary school counselor. Tiffany Jackson, of Senath, received this new position.
Other topics on the agenda saw the tuition rate and substitute pay stay the same as the previous year at $4,800 per year and $65 to $75 per day respectively.
