There are always truck accidents at this corner. There needs to be no turns on red on all four corners.

There is no enforcement of the laws. No turn on red sign appear on Middle Country Road and Rt. 83 and STILL people make the turns. Have seen cops that just "put their heads down" when this happens. If the laws were enforced we could pay some police salaries. Get a cop on Nesconset and Wireless in Setuaket at 3:30 p.m. and a bundle could be made from riding the shoulder to "no turn on red" signs being ignored. The same for Bicycle Path in Selden - try walking - they speed thru the stop signs that someday someone will be killed! We pay a ton of money for our cops - lets see them do their jobs!

Wouldn't hurt to clamp down on the excessive speeding that occurs on 83 as well. It all has to do with that hill... it captures inattentive drivers who descend at a high rate of speed. This happened right across from the police station... somethings gotta be done.

There's LOTS of intersections where rite on red needs to be banned, esp. Sunrise Hwy overpasses from Sayville to 112 in Patchogue. God help you if you choose not to turn on red from the service road to 112 or N Ocean because you can't see who's coming from the left, I thought this one guy was gonna have a stroke! Geez, it's only a few seconds. Very bad law, although the intentions were probably good.

The drivers of trucks, I am talking about the smaller 4 wheel drive kind that are used for cars these days (i.e. the Dodge Ram), are the ones who drive like maniacs. They think they own it all. They don't!

As far as the traditional truck drivers, well, most are good. Their livelihood depends on it. There are some stupid ones, like the ones we all see getting stuck under the bridges on the Northern State, etc. in spite of all the signs that are posted that say no trucks!

I've also noticed that some of the people who drive the more expensive cars also seem to be making up their own rules of the road, that has got to stop as well.

Last winter I had one nut case tailgating me on in icy/snowy road conditions. The look on that woman's face, well she looked like a real live one! Also, there were a couple of men who were putting the pedal to the metal in very hazardous road conditions and tailgating everybody and anybody they could find. Very dangerous.

Putting "No Turns On Red" signs at that intersection won't stop anybody.
People will just go right through them, like they already do the lights.
Everybody-young,old,male,femal e-does it.They just blow through all traffic
lights and signs like they own the road.Nobody has any consideration for others. It's all,"Me!Me!Me!I come first!Get out of my way!"I was at Route 111 and Mt.Pleasant Road in Happauge this morning waiting to make a right turn, and the jerk behind me
started tooting his horn because he
couldn't wait a few seconds. No wonder there are so many road rage incidents.
People need to calm down and be patient when driving.

its time to dump the "right on red" law.

it was drafted during the first energy crisis in the 70's when cars werent all that efficient.

the biggest problem is that everyone interprets the law differently. right on red has gone from a full stop to a rolling stop to ignored most of the time. ive had some close calls when folks made the right turns without looking.

its also time to start cracking down on these big tankers and other commercial vehicles. many are driven recklessly and have bad brakes, etc.this is a disaster waiting to happen.

I agree. But maybe having the same amount as in the early 80's isnt working any more.

As well you generally have maybe 1 cop car per zip code. Question is:

How many stop signs, street lights and intersections and miles of road per zip code?

People must change their own ways and obey the law. There will never be enough enforcers when it's the norm to drive the way LIers do.

Why do minorities feel the need to get involved in gangs? If you know a gang member try to teach them a better way of life. Get away from the garbage it will only get you killed. It will get you nothing good.

The problem is the drivers making up their own rules. Forget about getting police enforcement, there aren't enough of them. And the road was closed for six hours because the county DPW showed up with inadequate and antiquated equipment. The state had most of the work to do and was done and gone long before the county. Doing less with less.

Why does Newsday lock the blog postings if the article relates to anybody that is not white? I can't post to the article regarding the cache of weapons found in the day care center....

Because it wouldn't be "PC" to let people comment about the "Wiz-Kids" who were covering for their piece of trash son , But if one of the illegals , who attend the Day-Care shot themselves with one of the guns , then you could comment , on "How could this happen"
