does any one know what this is about? i also want to ask about police officers calling for money for fallen police officers familys, i have gave and gave and when i dont have the money they still keep pestering me until i give in, theres times i just dont have it, they send you a decal to put on your car window, as much as i have gave to them it looks like they would accept no for an answer just once, i cant do it every time ,they call me like once a month, just wondering if this is a legitimate charity,

I wish I knew what the phone scams are about.
I know what you mean about the fallen police officers thing. I have given (not knowing if this is legit. or not), I have finally asked them to stop calling me and they wait 2 or 3 months and start it all again.

This scam can only be done on PBX phones which are normally busineseses and Organizations. Residential and Cell phones are not susceptible or affected. See snopes: http://www.snopes.com/fraud/telephone/jailcal...

I have had this same bunch call me and no I don't give. I don't know if it's a rip off or not. The way I figure it, a fallen police officers family is no better than anyone else's family. They are also no better to have to pay a life and health Insurance plan than anyone else. I think it's a scam but don't know for sure. Either way I don't give. If you give in, they will always pester you. When they call, simply hang up. If they call directly back, just leave the phone off the hook and walk away for about 10 minutes, they will get the idea. Remember these people are invading your home where you are paying the phone bill and you don't have to talk to them.

Also, thank God for caller ID. If you don't recogonize the caller, you can bet the call is of no benefit to you :) Just let it ring.

A policeman once told me that alot of these calls come from other states. Even if they are legit, they don't put KY employees to work. Theres the local police, county, and state. They call for fallen officers, their retirement funds, or funds to be used at their discretion for emergencies. The firedepartments do the same thing.

Don't get me wrong. They work hard and have to be dedicted to the jobs. They are here for our protection. But they choose the job and they get paid for it. No one contributes to my emergency fund or retirement fund, or to help my family if I die.

I used to contribute too until my friend told me about how they operate. You never know who is calling or if your money is going where you think it is. Now I say no. They keep at it and start decreasing the amount and try to make me feel guilty. Well I do feel sorry for them and I could not do their jobs. But again, they chose the job and they get paid for it. I lost my job and had to have emergency surgery. I had medical bills I couldn't pay and I told the caller that. He wouldn't stop so I told him to start a charity for me because I can't afford to give away $15.00, and he came back with "can you afford $10.00?" I hung up and now I refuse to take the calls. You get the calls every month because they are calling about local, county and state and they make the calls every quarter. Just hang up and they will get the message.

You are absolutely right, it's a profession and they chose it. Individuals can't support the whole world. As the old saying goes...charity begins at home. Policemen and firemen are no better than any others. They get paid and can buy life insurance just like anyone else has to.

Thanks Bandit; I wish now I had got my pistols and holsters in the picture. Does Satan Claus bring you some vodka and other good schitt for Christmas? People used to make fun of my cap pistols til' I threw gasoline on them and fired the cap pistols in their ear. It was funny to see them kicking and rolling trying to put out the fire. Hehehe. They didn't make fun any more.

If you have contributed money to a group in the past, you have an established relationship with them and they can continue to call you. However, I have been told that if you tell them to take your name off their calling list that they are required to do so. And if they continue to call, they should be reported to the attorney general's office in Frankfort. I have my number on the no call list and I seldom get a telemarketing call. When I do, I say "I'm not interested" and I hang up. I do not give them a chance to respond. If you want my opinion, I wouldn't carry on a conversation with any of these people calling me on the phone. Just say no and hang up. But if you want to play around with them, pretend you are hard of hearing and ask them to repeat things over and over. They will get frustrated and hang up on you!!

I even got a call from some fool asking for donations to help Chiefs of police catch child molesters. I told him I would help by putting a .22 caliber bullet between the bastards eyes, he said, thats illegal and I said, so is child molesting. I then told him the Chiefs of police were already getting paid to do their job and they needed to get their lips off of a coffee cup rim and their nose out of another mans wife's arse and do their job. These people don't sit and make these calls for nothing. They are lining their pockets with your money, if you give.

You are right about the no call list. But it doesn't effect charities. You are also right about asking to be taken off their call list. I am on the no call list and still received calls so I told them to take me off. No more calls. Every so often we do receive those type calls and my boyfriend gets on the phone and jokes around with them to the point that THEY hang up and don't call back. He gets a kick out of it.
They need to start a charity for the people who fall between the cracks. Not eligible for any type of government assistance, but not able to make ends meet due to no fault of their own.
I lost my job of many years due to this economy. I can't find another job of any kind, even McDonalds won't call me. I refuse to give to someones retirement fund when I am having trouble keeping the lights on and it burns me to no end that they have the gall to call anyone now considering most peoples situation.

When they ask for Mr. or Mrs. whoever.. tell the person on the phone to hold on while you go get them... then just lay the phone down and go on about your business.. they will hang up eventually.

Or another idea... tell them you were just heading out for the day but if they'd leave their home phone number, you'd be glad to call them back later tonight and hear what they have to say.
