My husband and I were one of many victims of the red-light scam in Schaumburg. We wrote two letters to contest the violation and spoke with someone at the hearing office. We were told in simple terms "Tough ____!" The photo shows that we did make a stop before proceeding through the intersection, but nobody cared. Now that it has been shown, first, that the camera at Woodfield Dr. and Meacham Rd. was defective (as reported in the Tribune and on the local news programs), and second, it really didn't have a purpose except to generate income for Schaumburg or the red-light camera company, should we all not get a refund???? In this economy paying $100 for nothing is ridiculous. Can all us victims band together and demand our money back?

Don't you stop at a red light and wait for the light to turn green before proceeding thru the intersection? Are you saying the camera that caught you wasn't operating properly? Something isn't jiving here. Please claify.

I am familiar with that intersection...it's not unusual for the lights to be blinking RED, as in it never turns green, and the USUAL and stated driver's rule according to the STate of Illinois driving manual, is to stop at a blinking red light, and then proceed through the intersection... Sometimes, because of power outages, storms, lightening, etc., it causes the traffic lights to go out... they will blink in the red light mode.... I don't think you should take this laying down... Obviously, there had to be others who received a ticket too, since that is near Woodfield MALL, and a very busy intersection.....four lanes going both ways on both Meachum and Woodfield Drive. I think I'd get an attorney.... Schaumburg police were nailed a few years ago for tagging people for speeding with their radar guns... unfortunately, they were tagging all people for going the same speed...everyone was doing 75 miles an hour....it seems that the way the traffic laws read, that if you are traveling so many miles an hour OVER the speed limit, it bumps up your traffic fine to over $100.00. A class action lawsuit was filed, and I believe, enough people raised hell, that they had all charges dropped, because it was obvious the tickets were "fixed", and cops were lying in court to meet their quotas.... Maybe a little letter to the ACLU would build a fire under them....seems like they are just doing the same thing, only this time, they are using computers and cameras to do their bidding. I think you should put an ad in the paper. Undoubtedly there are others who were ticketed the same way....just a thought. http://www.escortradar.com/school-recent-arti...

you arent a victim if you arent smart enough to know about a widely publicized camera (before it was even installed) There was not anything wrong with the camera I am afraid it was end user error.

The poster said NOTHING about the red light "blinking". Where did that come from? Maybe you can clarify the posters comment "We did make a stop before proceeding thru the intersection". Since when does one "make a stop and then proceed" at a red light? You're supposed to stop and WAIT for your light to turn green. If you're caught on camera blowing a red light or not making a complete stop and pause before turning right against a red light what's your defense? That the camera malfunctioned? Can most people afford to miss a days work (maybe more)and pay an attorney $250.00 (maybe more) to fight a $100.00 ticket? If it's the principal of the thing they should pay the ticket and start a class action suit.

The reason people were getting tickets is not for "blowing through" a red light but turning right when you ARE ALLOWED... Think before you respond to a post.

You need to avoid the cameras, make u-turn and go around, it is cheaper then fight the asskoles, I just received in the mail today my plate spray reflector to blurr the plate when the flash goes on. The $100 dollar tickets really cost about 137 before taxes are taken out from your payroll check.

Think before you respond to a post. You obviously missed the words "if" and "or". Also, you may be able to make a right turn against a red light, but you MUST come to a complete stop BEFORE turning. They weren't getting tickets for making the turn they were getting tickets for NOT making the turn PROPERLY. There were tickets issued for blowing the red light, but there were MORE tickets issued for making the right on red improperly. You should know the FACTS before you respond to a post.

I can't decide if you are a cartoon that missed it's time slot, or a village that lost it's idiot...either way, how YOU decided to read my post is most interesting INDEED. NOWHERE IN MY POST DID I MENTION THAT THE LIGHT THAT THIS PARTICULAR POSTER WAS AT WAS BLINKING.... if you quiet yourself, and re-read the post....you will discover I mentioned my familiarity with THAT particular intersection, whereupon numerous occasions over the course of ten years residence in the area, I had come upon A RED LIGHT BLINKING scenario... sad and wonderful...indeed.

What's REALLY sad and not so wonderful is how YOU read MY comments. NOWHERE in my response did I say that you said the poster said anything about a blinking red light. My point was that the poster said NOTHING about a blinking red light yet you begin your response with a tyraid about "blinking red lights". A blinking red light was NOT the subject of the discussion. Who cares what your familiarity is with that intersection? Sheesh..! Talk about becoming derailed! The poster was complaing about getting a red light ticket. She was upset because according to her "they did make a stop before proceeding through the intersection". I've asked the poster and YOU how that's done and neither of you have yet to come up with an answer. When you've got the red light you don't just "make a stop and then proceed". You stop and WAIT for the light to turn green. Stay on topic and leave your personal attacks at the door.
