Cahokia school board members voted late Monday to close three schools to save some jobs as well as sports, music, art and physical education programs.

Businesses along the Illinois Route 3 corridor between Alton and Columbia, Ill., generate more than $20 billion in annual revenue and provide more than 215,000 jobs and payrolls totaling $9.2 billion, according to a study from the Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois released Tuesday.
