A chase that ended in a fiery crash at a restaurant turned a Sansom Park police officer from pursuer to rescuer.

The entire incident was caught on a squad car's dash camera.

"I estimate their speed at probably over 100 mph," Sansom Park Police Officer Josh Smith told CBS station KTVT-TV in Dallas.

When Officer Smith caught up to the Dodge intrepid carrying four teenage boys, he found the car smashed into the side of a restaurant.

The City Council on Tuesday night approved the drilling of two gas wells next to city parks despite concerns about noise and the potential for runoff into drinking water.

A city ordinance requires companies that want to drill so-called high-impact wells within 600 feet of homes, parks or other sensitive land to get approval from all affected property owners or a waiver from the council.

Chesapeake Energy applied to drill a well 267 feet from the western boundary of Quanah Parker Park at East First Street and Oakland Road on a site owned by the company. The site will be used to drill for gas beneath the nearby White Lake Hills neighborhood. Read more

As in elections past, the question of whether constables should wear uniforms and drive marked vehicles is a big issue in this race. The position pays $75.919.22 annually, and the election is for a four-year term. Precinct 1 encompasses northeast and east Fort Worth and Northeast Tarrant County, including North Richland Hills, Richland Hills, Haltom City and Watauga.

A man killed in a shootout with an apartment security guard early Sunday has been identified as 23-year-old Victor Chacon, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office. via Dallas Morning News

“We're just going to let [the police] handle the investigation.”

The security guard was breathing heavily but didn't sound panicked as he called 911 Sunday morning to report that he had been shot, according to a recording released Monday by Richland Hills police.

'I'm a security officer, and I've been shot,' he said. 'I've been shot in the abdomen.'

'Do you know who shot you?' the dispatcher asked.

'No, I don't,' said the guard, whose name has not been released. 'One of the residents.'

Investigators are still trying to figure out what started a shootout at a Richland Hills apartment complex that left Victor Chacon, 23, of Sansom Park dead and the apartment security guard seriously wounded. Read more

FORT WORTH -- Louise Franz had made it clear that she didn't want Stephen Heard in her mobile home.

She said he carried around a gun named 'Thelma,' and she once overheard him threaten her sister during an argument.

'He told her he would kill her and her family and, when they came looking for him, he would take as many out as he could,' Franz testified Tuesday.

On the afternoon of Nov. 29, 2005, Fort Worth police officer Henry 'Hank' Nava was fatally wounded inside Franz's home in the 7000 block of Seth Barwise Street after Nava and officers Ernest Tamayo and Steve Myers got into a gunfight with Heard. Read more
