During opening statements on Monday, defense attorneys told jurors that Carlos Fierro will admit he drove drunk the morning his car allegedly hit and killed a pedestrian in Santa Fe 10 months ago.

First Judicial District Court officials are expecting about 175 prospective jurors to show up Wednesday for two trials later this month, including Carlos Fierro's. The court sent out approximately 700 jury summons a ' two panels worth a ' for Tuesday.

Fierro lawyers want trial delayed
Carlos Fierro wants a state district judge to postpone his vehicular homicide trial to allow the "multiple experts" hired by his defense team more time to study evidence and form opinions, according to a motion filed this week.

Former officer pleads not guilty in pedestrian death
Photo: Alfred Lovato, a former state police sergeant who was riding in Carlos Fierroa TMs passenger seat when the attorney allegedly struck and killed a man late last year, pleaded not guilty Monday in District Court on charges of vehicular homicide and causing a fatal accident.
