Investigators suspect couple involved in homicide
(Detectives would like to speak with a Salton City couple) Investigators feel the pair may have had something to do with the recent homicide in the City.
27 year old Cornelio Zendejas was found shot to death last week. Investigators now say 26-year-old Rudy Nickles Martinez and 32 year old Marie June Kimberly Spears may be connected to the shooting. The couple has apparently fled to Mexico.
Investigators are now releasing new and different information in the homicide. They are now saying Zendejas was found in the drivers seat of the Nissan maxima he was apparently buying. Officials had said the body was discovered in the passenger seat of the vehicle.
They are also saying the victim was shot several times, instead of the single gunshot wound previously reported. The weapon used in the homicide has still not been recovered.
Investigators have not said how they believe Martinez and Spears are involved in the shooting.
Tuesday, 17 November 2009 (Zendejas dies from gunshot wound) The body of 27-year-old Cornelio Zendejas was found in a park car Saturday night.
Investigators are not revealing very much information. It has been revealed the death was caused by a single gunshot wound. Sheriffs deputies found the body after receiving a call Saturday concerning an abandoned Nissan Maxima.
The caller said the vehicle had been at the Salton City intersection for at least a couple days. Zendejas, who worked at a local convenience store, was last seen last Thursday.
The investigation was determined to be a homicide after not weapon was discovered at the scene. It was also determined the vehicle was not registered to the victim. Investigators say they are following leads, but as yet they have no suspects

A caller reported to the North County Sheriffs Department Saturday night. The call was made at close to 9:30 at night, and indicated a Nissan maxima had been parked nearby for at least two days. Deputies responded and found the body of 27-year-old Cornelio Lopez Zendejas. The body was found in the passenger seat of the vehicle.
Investigators have not said how the man died. Sergeant Charles Lucas said all information had to come from the investigators. The investigators are not releasing a lot of information, at this time.

A middle-aged man passed away this month from complications due to the flu.
IMPERIAL COUNTY The Imperial County Public Health Department announced this morning that a middle aged male passed away earlier this month due to complications from the flu. The death is being categorized as a flu-related death- probable H1N1. The individual was admitted to a local emergency department on October 4th due to shortness of breath, fever and other flu-like symptoms. The individual had underlying health conditions. Hospitalizations and deaths from the flu are expected to increase as the flu season progresses. In a typical season more than 30,000 Americans die from flu-related complications.
