2-Car Collision in Safford

At approximately 6:45 PM, Safford units were dispatched to the Best Western on 14th Avenue and Thatcher Boulevard in reference to a motor vehicle accident that had occurred minutes before. Safford Police arrived on the scene to find a Red 4-door Ford pickup truck and a red GMC Jimmy, and they requested assistance from the Safford Fire Department to extricate the victims. Minutes later, SPD officers requested two medical helicopters and further assistance from Pima Fire/Rescue and Thatcher Fire. A third medical helicopter was put on stand-by in Willcox. Thatcher Police officers responded to the intersections of 14th Avenue/Thatcher Boulevard and 8th Street/14th Avenue to direct traffic. They were assisted by Arizona DPS and Pima Police. No names have yet been released and it is suspected that this accident has caused one fatality.
