This old house might be historic
A few years ago, there was a bus that would stop every so often in front of Willard Knitter's house in Plainfield Township.
No one would get out; the bus would just sit there, and then move on. The people on the bus were tourists, looking at various historic sites around Northampton County.
But how historic is this house?
The Slate Belt Heritage Center thinks the home may have once been a tavern owned by a man named Adam Dietz, who settled in Plainfield in 1745. If that's the case, it's probably the oldest building in the Slate Belt, and one of the oldest in the county, even older than Easton's Bachmann Publick House, built in 1753.
An Easton man gave a false name Sunday to officers, police said. Carlton Duval, 30, was pulled over by officers at 6:24 a.m., who responded to a call from his girlfriend, Amelia Napoli, who said he took her ...

For some, long wait for sewers nearly over Washington Twp. residents will hook into Roseto system.
The residents of Front Street in Washington Township, Northampton County, have been asking the township to install a sewer line in their neighborhood for 38 years.
For some of those residents, the wait is almost over. The township on Wednesday night received a $149,000 grant from Northampton County that will allow some homes on Front Street to tap into the sewer system of Roseto .
''It's great news. Long time coming,'' said Front Street resident Peg Dalessandro.
She was part of a group of homeowners from the neighborhood who attended the meeting to see the supervisors accept a ceremonial check from the county. When the meeting was over, they held the check and had pictures of themselves taken, and came up to the supervisors' table to offer their gratitude. Read more
