Winn voters say 'no'; Montgomery's say 'yes"

Winn Parish voters made a strong statement at the polls Saturday, and that statement was "no." A parishwide law enforcement 1-cent sales tax referendum failed, as did five proposals for alcohol sales in District 7. The sales tax received less than 30 percent of the vote, falling 2,309 to 950.

Billy N. Owens is the new alderman for the town of Rosepine. Owens, a Republican, tallied 99 of the 138 votes to outpace his opponent, James David Jones, with 72 percent of the vote.
