The reason for Luby's initial decline years ago must have been bad financial management, becuase the food was wonderful. When Pappas bought them out, the quality of food went into a tailspin. They were more into looks than anything else. Cold food under not-so-hot lamps that looked appealing, but not what most cafeteria patrons want: warm comfort food.

I hope there is an entrepreneur out there that will bring back the basics. Houston desperately needs a good old fashioned cafeteria.

Galveston's Luby's began a block from American National Insurance Company, adjacent to several historical structures, including the birthplace of "Wrongway" Corrigan.

Then, downtown died and the Galveston Historical Foundation (an employee, who now works for Moody (ANICO) and will be the next mayor) may have looked the other way as one of its major contributors (ANICO) seemingly wanted to buy and tear down historical buildings around it's office to apparently make parking lots for its employees.

Ironically, the rumor, as reported in the so-called local newspaper, is that ANICO is slowly moving many of its employees out of Galveston.

Let's hear it for Galveston's new mayor-to-be!

(Luby's changed ownership. Refer to the web for possible reasons, as reported by its former customers, why its Galveston presence is closing after over 50 years.)
