Westland leaders angry at Romulus police

Just recently I successfully completed an EIGHT HOUR CONCEALED WEAPONS TRAINING COURSE consisting of five hours of classroom instruction in FIREARMS LAW AND CIVIL LIABILITY, DEADLY FORCE, AVOIDING CRIMINAL ATTACK AND CONTROLLING A VIOLENT PERSON, SAFE FIREARM STORAGE AND HANDLING TO PROTECT A CHILD, HANDGUN SAFETY, HANDGUN OPERATION, AMMUNITION KNOWLEDGE AND THREE HOURS OF LIVE FIRE RANGE TIME, INCLUDING SHOOTING FUNDAMENTALS AND SHOOTING POSITIONS.

Our NRA CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR explained to our class very, very clearly and strongly that you should never, never, never, never get involved in a gunfight! Well, that is exactly what your local police EXPOSED INNOCENT BYSTANDERS TO IN WESTLAND AT THAT BUSY STRIP MALL this month. That was just stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, STUPID OF the police to put INNOCENT PEOPLE IN THE LINE OF GUNFIRE. STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!

They (the authorities) defied basic commmon sense rules. Dum.

I will never spend another dime in Romulus or Westland!

Stupid for sure, but why punish the hard working business owners of Romulus or Westland?

Born in New Boston, lived in Romulus for 20 years and now live in Westland.

Romulus police, ordinance officers and their courts have to be among the most arrogant, irresponsible and money grubbing bunches I've ever run into.

Let your grass grow .5" beyond their standard and POW - you're in court paying a $150 fine. YES, the ordinance officer will get out of his/her car with a RULER and take pictures!!

Get hit from behind by someone who has a long history of speeding in the city and POW - you get the ticket despite his 100 foot long skid marks. Fought it and won, but still ended up paying $75 court costs.

Have your car stop 1 block from your house and POW - you get your car towed within 20 minutes even though you are in the process of having it towed to your house. Another $150.

Then there was the day we first moved into Romulus; signal on we were pulling into our drive and some guy hit us from behind - and he had pulled up onto the kerb to do so. Cop came and didn't write a ticket. Found out later he had a relative on the force.

Then there is their tendency to overreaction and questionable decision making. They have a local rep for such things, so this Westland shootout should be no surprise at all to Romulus residents. This story is just the tip of the iceberg.

Go to the Romulus courthouse any day and you'll find well over 100 people waiting just for morning court - and they have 4 judges to hand the case load.

Go to Westland's court, a city with many times the population, and you'll find maybe 25 people and 2 courts open, if that (I went a couple of days just to confirm my suspicions about Romulus)

Getting the drift? Romulus uses its court and police as a revenue streams.
