The Fish Creek Crossroads Community Assn. (http://fishcreekcrossroads.com) were on the agenda this week at the Polk County Commissioners Meeting. Their concern was the removal of a home on property purchased by the county for the airport expansion. http://fishcreekcrossroads.com/home_give_away Contrary to the county's procedure which requires that sealed bids be taken on such property, the home was deemed safe to move by the county inspector and removed at no expense or compensation to the county. While commissioners state that they were led to believe the home was of no value, no one claims to have personally inspected it. Someone seemingly authorized a member of the committee overseeing the airport expansion to dispose of the property; whether this authorization is officially recorded in the commission meeting minutes is unknown. The commission chair Sandra Galloway committed to an investigation of the matter, but the group feels an independent group would be more appropriate. Furthermore, the group is encouraging the community to contact a local news organization highly reputed for thorough investigations into community concerns such as this since local print media seems reluctant to broach the subject. The Fish Creek Crossroads Community Assn. was formed mostly to gather forces in opposition to the re-zoning request on behalf of an application by Wayne Davis Concrete. That request was approved amidst much controversy and allegations of unethical conduct by member(s) of the commission. A lawsuit was subsequently filed on behalf of FCCCA; the attorney later refunded the group their money and removed himself from the suit. Current Polk County Commissioners are Sandra Galloway (Chair), Marshell Thaxton (Vice Chair), Billy Croker, Ray Barber, David Jarvis, Frank Lott. Barber, Croker and Jarvis will be replaced in the upcoming election. The FCCCA played an instrumental role in publicly announcing their support of candidates in the primary and consider that announcement the deciding factor in the defeat of Croker and Peugh, who was seeking Barber's vacant seat.
