It is really sad that the pay doesn't match up to the cost of living in Branson. I couldn't raise a child there if that is the way it is. We will just keep Branson as a vacation spot only. Branson needs to do a lot more to help those that are homeless but what if they have been helped before; given the resources to get a home and a job and they just don't. I guess they go without. Branson is such a tourist attraction; bringing in tons of money each year and can't help the homeless that deserve to be helped. Hopefully someone will step in and do what is right.

I know the Mayor of Branson is the lead in helping the homeless. She is the one with church army trying to find the answer. She does care,if anyone can find a solution it will be her. But she probably needs some volunteers to get it done. If you got the time call her, she can use the help

Tell these "so-called" homeless to put the whiskey down and get to work. We got ditches that need to be dug and urinals to clean.

True.

Since the mono-rail idea evaporated ( how many million $$ per mile again?), I think the Halfrican wants you to put in a subway system instead

..easy diggin'...I would assume?

Has anyone ever observed the school bus going up 76 country blv. picking up the kids in the morning or letting them out in the afternoon? Some of these are childern of an employee, some are from motel rooms. A motel room should not have to be called a home. I remember one family living in a tent at a camp ground. They were trying to save enough money for two months rent + deposit, so they could get a home for their childern. Please try to remember, not all homeless Americans are alcoholics or on drugs. Wages have not matched up to the cost of living here in Branson for many years. Instead of paying Americans a living wage, a lot of business people in Branson have contracted and brought in people from Bleize, Russia, Jamaica, Philippines, Asia, and oh yes, Mexico, " illegals". This has lost many, many jobs for American workers. Beleave it or not, there are a lot of us Americans who don't want just hand outs, just are jobs back with a living wage.

THE GOOD FOLKS THAT LIVE HERE NOW OR WHO WOULD LIKE TO MOVE HERE NEED TO GET THE NOTION OUT OF THEIR HEADSNTHAT SERVICE JOBS LIKE HOUSKEEPERS, CASHIERS, STOCKERS AND STORE SALES PEOPLE ARE GOING TO PAY MUCH MORE THAN MINIMUM WAGE.

EVEN THOUGH CERTAIN BUSINESSES IMPORT LABOR THE BUSINESSES ARE PAYING OUT LITTLE MORE OVERALL THAN THEY WOULD IF THEY HIRED "LOCALS" WHO DON'T SHOW UP, SHOW UP LATE, QUIT FOR NO REASON, AND PERFORM POORLY JUST TO GET LAID OFF BECAUSE THEIR UNEMPLOYMENT IS BUILT UP.

THESE JOBS REQUIRE LITTLE TALENT, NO SCHOOLING AND BASICALLY ONLY THE ABILITY TO FOLLOW SIMPLE DIRECTIONS FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS TALENT, SCHOOLING, DEMONSTRATED RESPONSIBILITY AND THE DESIRE TO SUCCEED IN RETAIL,HOSPITALITY OR FOOODSERVICE.

THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE, GET AN EDUCATION AND GET THE H** OUT OF THIS AREA. UP NORTH PEOPLE ARE MAKING $50K TO $80k WITH JUST A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA.

newby......It is a shame for this country, that not all of us Americans have had the privilege of a fine Education nor the fantastic insight such as you possess........You have got to be the most narrow-minded, Conceited, Arrogant person i have come into contact with in a long time. If this is what an Education doe's to you, i don't want one......How dare you to put down, insult, and try to humiliate us hard working Americans who work in service jobs...... If the north is so great, why don't you take your NORTHERN AS. back there. P.S. Don't forget to take the foreigners with you. The south just might rise again...... he he he

I love the South and wish ths South would indeed rise again and succeed. Just think of it, most
crime would vanish.
Ya know Hodge Podge maybe you really should consider getting at least your GED. My point was simple don't expect anything but low wages for low end service jobs and quit complaing because you don't drive a new car, have a nice home, a boat on the lake, company paid health insurance etc.
Every rent check you hnd over is going to someone smarter than you. You're paying his mortgage, his taxes his insurance and providing him a high on the hog lifestyle while you pick sh** with the chickens. Ha Ha Ha.

I was trying to find a review of a show here and stopped to read this blog. I live here, my kids go to school here and to read the comments from locals and tourists are unbelievable! People live here for the beauty and STAY here because of the people. The values and priorities of this town are and have always been, GOD, FAMILY, COUNTRY. The churches here give clothes, new shoes, school supplies, pay for housing and have more than what, 30 food drives a year? Not to mention, all the entertainers that offer area appreciation to the locals to HELP the economy here or when you can see a free show for just bringing in food to give to the poor. Every night you can have a free meal here in town. I have moved 7 times in 17 years and I would never want to leave here. I lived up North for many, many years and you may make more money, but your cost and quality of life is poor. Housing is outragous and property taxes alone will bleed you dry. People that move here for work need to to realize and understand that the industry is service-based. For higher paying jobs Springfield is close by. And more importantly, if this area isn't for you, then leave. Make room for the ones that move here because they want too. This town is more generous and giving and genuine than most towns in the country. I feel comfortable saying that too. I encourage those that want to make 80,000 on service-type jobs or manufacturing jobs say in Chicago or Minneapolis, try surviving there - where a 1-bedroom dump with a 1 1/2 train commute costs $1900.00 or buy a home and on top of your mortgage, pay 3X in real estate tax such as a $300,000 home =$12,000+ in property tax. That is if you can find a home for that price. Our starter home up there 11 years ago was $390,000 for a 3-bedroom, 1400 sq. ft. house. The sun shines here, the seasons are beautiful, the people are so giving and generous, the churches provide food and shelter for the homeless and poor, the entertainers give school assemblies talking about how they are living their american dream and came from nothing just to inspire children, and the teachers genuinely care and work providing tools/skills for a kids future successes.

Seriously, just wondering how long you have lived here in Branson? Sounds like you have a nice life, and im happy for you. What i have seen here with my own eyes is something i have'nt liked very much. You have some people who want the tax payers to give them everything for free all their life. Then, you have people who just want to work and pay for their own rent, food, and ect. Teach their childern you have to work for the things you want in life. You don't have to be rich to be happy, i know a lot of unhappy rich people. Just a living wage. I have seen so many Americans lose Their jobs to foreigners and illegals in this town it hurts my heart. Well, what goes around comes around and i think it's starting.........

Hodge Podge:

I understand your points. I paid for my college education and advanced education as well. One year I think I survived on popcorn and mustard. I worked for a company up north and they laid off thousands of people. The town went from 8% unemployment to 19%- the highest in the state. Qualified, or how can I say that without sounding offensive, people are looking for jobs competing with high school graduates...minorities are competing with skilled laborers, etc. etc. No doubt this is a horrible time to find work, keep work, have decent benefits as costs continue to rise for companies, tourism is down, and unemployement is high everywhere. However, I agree with you that work takes effort and rewards should come with hard work and not the other way around AND I firmly believe in FAIRNESS. A lot of times you don't know what's FAIR until you see with your own eyes what's NOT FAIR. That changes everything. I understand bitterness too. However, I have sympathy for any person looking for work and fighting for a job trying to provide for their family. I believe after travelling around that Branson has one advantage over many towns in the country. People care and at least try to help. I hope the economy turns around, there are thousands of jobs for every person and people learn they are a product of their environment and make responsible changes in their lives, work hard for it and are hopefully rewarded. I like to help as best I can, but I also know what hard work is and what tough times are.

Yes Sharon, Branson WAS the most wonderful place to live, untill GREED to over.Even the people with low-paying jobs could live here in harmony. Then so called progress comes to town. Rent goe's up, food, electric, gas, and ect.. Instead of paying Americans a little more money to live on, the business people contract with companies to bring in foreigners and illegals. Then out went many, many American jobs. No one in Branson wants to talk about this problem but me it seems. Maybe some day????? Without jobs there are many more homeless each year.

8th generation here so your the outsider "Seriously" and I'm not going anywhere. I say they are a little more on target than you realize cloud in the sky.
Branson is stress in the summer and dead in the winter.
One thing about the towns in this area is that they are stretched out so without a vech. your in a major bind.
Just as in any area...the cost of living fits suit to the level of pay.

The community feeds everyone horse hockey.
To be honest I don't get food stamps but I believe the income amount to qualify is about $500/600 max. a month.
The people I know that are unfortunate enough to use state medical assistance are refused by the individual doctors as a rule anymore to end up using the same medical program clinic for the uninsured. Which tends to treat with a min level of care. There is no adult dental what so ever in the state and 1 dentist for the children of these programs in the 3rd largest city. Things are tough all over...Do you want to hear more?

I've read it, read it, and reread it again. Perhaps IT IS TIME to take back what's OURS,for the ones that LIVE here, the ones that LIVE HERE LEGALLY. Now I can get passionate about something again. Some days I'm a ghost writer with dreams of fairies teaching me to linedance and other days, the more conservative side - Ms. Ambassador.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Taurus

It's important that you leave yourself plenty of room to manouvres during the weeks ahead, as Mercury turns retro today, especially when it comes to making decisions and airing your opinions to the world. You need to be as flexible as possible right now, otherwise you could find that you've boxed yourself into a corner and have to do some serious back-tracking. You need to consider all points of view and not just your own.
