Wind power has great potential, even in Missouri

Full story: Springfield News Leader

For me, peering over a field at a windmill whirling in the breeze recalls the 'peaceful, easy feeling' from the lyrics of that popular Eagles song.

because the wind isnt constant enough to keep the freezers the same temp. when the wind isn't blowing at least 20mph they only put out 100volts. 30mph is 150 volts 40mph and over is 220 volts. the freezers wont work unless they have 220 volts.
everybody knows this....

you can use 100% wind power for lights cause nobody notices that they arent as bright when the wind isn't blowing very hard. but the freezers cant work right unless the wind is blowing at least 40mph. so the new store cant use wind power 100%. only for the lights. thats why the market has so much trouble with their freezers

Another interesting comment. Who am I speaking with? What do you know about the Market's
freezer(s)and/or the problems because of power or lack thereof?

The greenies just can't understand that we still lack the technology for any real use of wind or solar but 2%-3%... just not enough, or economical enough to make any sizeable impact.
We could achieve more than that through conservation and passive means.

i figured you were having trouble with the freezers because everything i buy there that is frozen is half frost and some of the meat is gray or green. the last time i bought hashbrowns there, i could have made a snowman out of all the frost in the bag.

I believe the proper word to describe you, sir, is "ignorant". Not to mention you seem to enjoy stirring things up with arrogance. There are obstacles in all roads in life, and I believe it's more than obvious that the current grocery offerings in Rock Port at the moment leave citizens more than lacking--in service, in quality, in variety. It's going to take much more than a "bring it on" attitude to change the perceptions of a changing environment in a small town. I do, however, hope you're up to the challenge of improving your business...and maybe you should deal with comments on here about unsatisfactory products the same way any business would in real life--with respect.

still hiding and calling names without answering my only question why wouldn't everyone want to be serviced by the utility in thier community..I'm sure your much more intelligent than I...Maybe you could be more specific about product and business relations...we could have a discussion at the next Chamber of Commernce meeting...please let me know the date and time...Hmmm come out of the closet..show your identity...

The full wind power system? Thats like 34000 volts. That might be a little much. Do you think your electricity comes from the wind power system?

has anyone here worked on a turbine ? yea didnt think so until you understand a lil bit about how a turbine generates power and what is with the 20 MPH ?? that is 10 M/S which is what the turbine runs in is a metric system so yea also 10MPH is 5 M/S which is enough for a 1.5MW turbine to produce at full capacity and well capable of running a 230VAC freezer.... also 100V ???? 100 watts perhaps ? ive never had 100VAC circuit if that was the case something would be wrong ? just some facts

You don't pay close attention ... do you?

Characteristics of the supply given to customers are generally mandated by contractContract
A contract is an exchange of promises between two or more parties to do, or refrain from doing, an act which is enforceable in a court of law. It is a binding legal agreement....
between the supplier and customer. Variables of the supply include:
VoltageVoltage
Electrical tension is the potential difference between two points of an electrical or electronic circuit, expressed in volts. It is the measurement of the potential for an electric field to cause an electric current in an electrical conductor....
, including tolerance (usually +10 or -15 percentagePercentage

That means that the power companies may deliver 100 V AC to your home ... and be within tolerance guidelines.
I know ... I detected voltage well below 115 V at a residence, and called the power company ... and they simply stated the voltage was within their allowable tolerances ... tough. They saw no problem.

The first wind powered town in US, 2years ago we were told the rates would not be lowered when windmills up and running but the rates would not go up! Surprise we have had 2 rate increases and a few weeks ago they were talking about raising them again in March. Well so much for trusting in our municipal utilities and city officials. Along with the economy, the school wanting our tax dollars, the utility rates it stinks!! We do not earn KC or Omaha wages so lets keep our cost of living in line with our pay!!! What do say RP and School Board?

Kids, the title of this blog says a lot more than the detractors to wind power so far.
WE MUST stop (most) burning things in the near future if there is to be a future for civilation as we know it and most of the species of plants and animals. There are two areas where we burn the most fuel - transportation and coal fired electric generation.
There have been practical, less expensive alternatives for a long, long time but the big money that sells you motor fuel and electricity don't want you to know about them. First of all our gas and diesel vehicles could be getting 70-80 mpg - no sh*$! Second, there have been and are practical all electric vehicles that the major makers have removed from the market and refuse to produce (see "Who Killed the Electric Car").
Finally, we could all be saving a bundle of money if we would use LOCALIZED, wind, water, geothermal, and solar electric generation. The technology and materials are getting cheaper daily. Just search the net for yourself.
The given answers to the first question about the local market refusing to use wind power are all invalid. Don't use wind alone, use solar or water turbine or geothermal along with it. DO use batteries as a backup and a generator (methane, propane, gas or diesel) to charge them if necessary. As the technical type said above...amps is the measurement of power draw but when voltage drops amperage goes up. Voltage is maintained by a rectifier or inverter (electronic circuit) and/or the battery resivior. You can buy plans and explanatory books very cheaply on the net. How would you like to invest $5000 and never pay an electric bill again? Very possible for the homeowner - a somewhat higher for businesses with electical equipment.
Waste not,(so we will), want not. A "suggestion" from God the Father and Mother Nature that we can no longer afford to refuse.
