Corps backs expanded Trinity Uptown plan
“Unfortunately, that is reality.”
FORT WORTH -- The Fort Worth district of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is formally recommending that the boundaries of Trinity Uptown be changed to include about 1,000 acres on the city's east side, dramatically changing the project's scope and boosting its overall price tag.

Former Councilwoman Becky Haskin and others said the city has had millions of dollars set aside for years for Gateway -- along with numerous master plans to transform it into a facility rivaling Central Park -- but has failed to act. Read more

Affluent homeowners on Fort Worth's west side were upset about initial plans in the Trinity Uptown project to store periodic floodwaters temporarily on several hundred acres near their homes.
More than a year ago, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and city officials began considering a different approach: to contain the occasional flooding on the east side of Fort Worth, in the Riverside Oxbow area of the Trinity River on the west edge of Gateway Park.
That bred fear and suspicion on the less affluent east side. Would homes and businesses north of the Oxbow area be flooded as a result? Were the rich folks on the west side getting preferential treatment? Read more
