Parkside gets $400,000 USDA grant
The city of Wellman Tuesday announced it received an additional $400,000 in grant funds from the USDA Rural Development agency to aid in the completion of the Parkside Activities Center and Sunrise Child Care facility.

The Iowa and Illinois departments of Transportation, in conjunction with the Federal Railroad Administration , have been evaluating specific alternative routes to establish passenger rail connections between Chicago and Iowa City.
The Environmental Assessment document is available for public review and comment through October 15, 2009. Copies of the report have been sent to local libraries along the corridor and is posted on this site.

Van Allen house in Mount Pleasant moved
Posted on Sep 11, 2009 in The Gazette. The boyhood home of famed astrophysicist James A. Van Allen has been moved to a vacant lot that preservationists want to transform into a one-block museum. The 147-year-old house was sold at an auction and donated to the Henry County Heritage Trust. The house now sits next to a vacant elementary school building that Van Allen attended.
