down with wal-mart

How about another 99 Cent store, just what the City needs. Just like the rest, they'll promise one thing, but not deliver on it.
|
||||
|
Wal-Mart's idea of reuse comes in many forms from 99-cent stores to thrift stores. Regardless the place will be a crime-infested sewer (which is not much different than it is now with Wal-Mart there). Redlands should be selecting and pursuing the retail that enhances the community instead of treating every offer as some retail savior of our economy. Redlands could have better if the City would go out and get them.

Do you want the sales tax and secondary businesses, or don't you? Wal Mart is going to build, somewhere. That much is sure. So do you want the income given to Redlands, or do you want yet another empty building? You don;t want Wal Mart because you don;t like the company? Sorry, in today's economy, I'd say take what you can get. Otherwise, Wal Mart will move to Colton or Loma Linda, leaving you with even fewer shopping options than Redlands currently has.

Maybe they could replace it with another ChiCom vendor like Harbor Freight. I would think all of you liberals and socialists would welcome Chinese products to further degrade the country. Maybe all of the newly Obama-welcomed HIV immigrants can deliver it to your doorsteps.

"Economics" above has it correct. Whether you like WalMart or not, they ARE going to build a SuperCenter near Redlands and they WILL close the current Redlands store. The question is whether or not Redlands wants the jobs and tax income, or let it go to a neighboring city or the county?

Have Wal-Mart show us the Money ( New Tenent ),befor any new Buildings go up! Simple enought one would think?
|
||||
|
Even if the income comes to Redlands, what will happen with it? The City will squander it on stupid things and the "little guys" won't really feel any benefit.

I know
make it a Mexican indoor swap meet thank you wall-marx |

"Economics" and "Jerry" obviously don't live in Redlands. This is Walmart being the bully, plain and simple.
"You don't want us to build a new store? That's ok, we'll still shut down our existing store and build a new one someplace else. Take that." Chances are no other local city (i.e. Colton, Loma Linda) will want a Super Walmart either, since they either have no room for one, or would face the same problem as Redlands in ending up with an empty existing Walmart store. It would be nice if the City of Redlands would call Walmart's bluff, but in this economy it's hard to play chicken with a company like Walmart. |

Hey, I am with "economics" lets build the Super Wal-Mart. I would love another place to go grocery shopping. I HATE Stater Bros. they need some more competition.

It should be the new Police Station.

They won't pull out of Redlands. The store makes good money.

Let's do our homework before we agree to anything. The old Wal-Mart in Hemet has been vacant for over five years. Only recently have plans been made to make it something else. In those five years, the building was a blight and was a constant source of crime, etc.
More recently, the Wal-Mart in Lake Havasu City, Arizona has been closed for over one year and nothing has transpired to improve or occupy it. Wal-Mart needs to come clean with the cities that house their stores. The city councils need to wisen up a bit and take Wal-Mart for what it is...CONCERNED ONLY ABOUT PROFITS!!! |

I was employed in 1976 a Wal Mart in Harrisonville, MO. Around 2000, they built a new supercenter across the highwy, giving the same promises. The old building was sold to a person who tried to make it into a swap meet type of place and that never made it either. It is STILL a blight on this otherwise charming, small community in Missouri. DON'T BELIEVE THE LIES WALMART TELLS!!

I don't understand what the problem is. Gone are the days of good ol' mom and pop shops and local small town stores. Like it or not, this is the reality of it. While visiting a relative away at college in another state we had the opportunity to visit a Wal-mart supercenter, and I thought it was really nice and convenient. Is the only problem with a possible supercenter that it will leave an empty store in its old location? It seems that a new supercenter would bring more jobs to the area. The old store is going to go out of business regardless of whether or not the new store is built in Redlands or neighboring Highland or Loma Linda. So why not look at the benefits of a possible supercenter in the area? And of course the Wal-Mart corporation is only concerned about profits. What large business in this day and age isn't? I guess I'm just not understanding all the outrage. It doesn't seem like a big deal to me...
