Ozone levels in Rio Blanco County have violated federal limits, the first time that's happened in western Colorado, an environmental group says.

A nearly yearlong project to double the capacity of the Natural Soda sodium bicarbonate mining facility in Rio Blanco County, 50 miles north of Rifle, should be completed by the end of April, according to plant manager Bob Warneke.

He's worked with a who's-who of the local avant-garde, and in the last of those decades, he honed his explorative leanings at the University of Colorado as a grad student and instructor.

Weld County is on pace to produce almost 80 percent of Colorado's oil output this year - again making it the oil-drilling center of Colorado.
