Slave labor has always been popular with greedy, cruel individuals. The republican party is a great example.A minority rakes in the cash while the majority is left behind. It is called destructive capitalism.Look at Enron, the gasoline industry, wall street etc.All about greed.

thanks for the history lesson mdeveraux, now I know who to blame for everything I see as a problem... that darned John Bidwell, who according to you was a slaver, a republican, dabbled in deregulated energy derivatives, was an oil baron, worked on wall street (you did not specify Chico or NY) and sold or manufactured something called an etc.

Oh, oh I think I see old John out there now planting crab grass in my lawn.

I made my chocolate riches in co-operation with the oompa-loompas. They were never forced to carry cocoa for me! This is re-re-re-visionist!

While the Democrats are no friends to job creation, I have to agree with you that it is the Republicans who seem bent on us working for Wal Mart wages. We are in a situation now, where if we do not work for Wal Mart Wages, then businesses will take those jobs elsewhere.

The sad thing is hearing party lemmings arguing this is their idea of a economic utopia.

If jobs that pay a decent wage are created, then Republicans will just scream about unions breaking companies (like autoworkers and teamsters), and blame them for the jobs leaving.

When will people wake up and see that the GOP is selling us garbage?
Thanks Ira

Did it ever occur to you that maybe the Mechoopda liked pieces of blankets? Morals can only be applied to the time which one lives in. Maybe in 100 to 200 years from now someone will discount something that you did because you drove a combustion engine around town and thus contributed to the distruction of the planet? I think that has about as much validity as your comment

You have to keep the time frame in which Bidwell was alive in perspective. In Bidwell's days, people despised Indians. If you take the time to read local history books, you'll read stories of posses going after Yahi Indians because of some settler deaths. When they couldn't find them, they'd kill whatever Indians they found, including Maidus (who didn't cause problems for whites). In those days Bidwell was called an Indian lover and was looked down upon for that. By today's standards, Bidwell would have been thrown in prison for how he treated the Mechoopdas working his lands. When a Mechoopda was slacking on the job, he was whipped. And by the way, the Mechoopdas were given a certain amount of "calico" cloth and a half a head of beef every work day.

Daily Horoscope for December 21

Taurus

If you're a typical Taurean you value both your emotional and physical security, and often tend to restrict your actions accordingly. But during the coming month you'll need to spread your wings more widely than usual, whether through mental or physical pursuits. It will do you good to be more adventurous for a change, and to embrace life in all its aspects.
