Detective's new look at 2006 case leads to murder charge against former prosecutor

A former Illinois prosecutor has been charged with murder in the 2006 death of his wife after a newly promoted detective took another look at the case file. Curtis Lovelace, a former assistant state's attorney in Adams County, Illinois, appeared in court last Friday, where he asked for more time to raise funds to hire private lawyers, report the Quincy Journal and the Associated Press .

Cops: Pathologists' findings led to Ill. murder charge

Curtis Lovelace, 45, is escorted out of the Adams County Courthouse Aug. 28 in Quincy after being formally charged with first-degree murder in the February 2006 death of his first wife, 38-year-old Cory Lovelace. Lovelace, a former western Illinois prosecutor and University of Illinois football standout, is scheduled for an appearance related to the alleged suffocation Friday morning in Adams County Circuit Court.

A hospital in Quincy, Illinois has barred children under 12 from visiting the facility until further notice due to an outbreak of an unknown respiratory virus that has affected more than 70 young children in the area, hospital officials said on Friday. More than 70 children complaining of respiratory virus symptoms visited the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, during the Labor Day weekend, they said.
