Salinas residents debate gay parade

Amazing to have the anal-retentive, uptight, hiding behind the facade of god, religious leaders be SO obsessed with bodily functions!
Defecating? Really?
You know, nothing says "GOD bless America" more than banning a parade or celebration that revels in our differences!
If I wanted homogeneity (for those Creationists out there--that's like Adam and Eve--small gene pool, eventual retards) I'd be an aomeba!
Just for that I'm not gonna wear my Depends that day!

This is the reason that many of the local people refuse to shop in downtown Salinas. The local merchant stores and restaurants cater to an undesirable element. These merchants in brace this type of perversity.

So, as I'm sure that it will be stated, "If you don't like it, and don't condone it, don't come to the parade." And with that said, the majority of local citizens won't attend. They will vote with their feet by not attending. But more so, I hope they vote to NOT support the city of Salinas by not patronizing the downtown establishments, ever!

Why does Salinas need a gay parade for? For the people who are homosexual, you do not need a parade to express your sexual preference. Just continue living your life and preference, but you do not need a parade...

No need to "crater" Salinas, just have the Mayor
and the rest of the spineless liberals that all of you folks elected to run the city do another 7 day "fast". That should surely take care of all the problems you mentioned. A "second" fast would be a "double whammy" against the gang bangers/illegals etc. Surely they couldn't survive such a "hard line" response as that !?!!!

I am with you a 1000 per cent.(except I say crater salinas) Anyone who has lived and payed taxes here and then to see the city handed over to the illegals gangbangers who now run the city is frighteneing. I can't believe the outrageous things the people who are opposed to this say. Defecating and urinating in the streets??? Where do people get this idea that gay/lesbian people do such things? Unbelievable! I am an openly lesbian woman, and an upstanding citizen. I'm a professional, well-educated woman with a PhD. I hate to tell you this, people who are opposed to such an event, most gay/lesbian people are exactly like me. Decent, professional, upstanding citizens. The "undesirable" element in our community exists in every community, even the straight community. And what is with comparing gay people to gang bangers, thiefs etc.?? I've never broken the law, and neither have any of the other gay/lesbian people I know. It's really sad that some people actually believe that just because we're gay, that automatically means we're depraved, nutty and criminal. You know what? Sit down and have coffee with me, and you'd be shocked to find out that I'm just a normal person with the same concerns and same feelings you have.

The gay communith really needs to police themselves when it comes to GAY PRIDE. The public display of nudity and sexuality should never be allowed to be publicly displayed ESPECIALLY in the vicinity of children. PRIDE should be a display of how the gay community can contribute to society as whole and not to show of their bits.

Homosexuality will always be a distortion of how God created humanity. Spin it however you wish, but it will always be something that God calls an abomination. My prayer is that homosexual people will talk to God, ask Him to deliver them from their delusion and distortion. There is always room at the Cross for humble people trying to follow the way God told us to live our lives. Perverting our sexuality is not on the list of approved activity that God blesses.

I hate to tell you this, JustMe, but all those verses in the bible that you all believe are about homosexuality, are not about that at all. Those verses have been mistranslated and misinterpreted for thousands of years, so many clergy believe that there's no mention of homosexuality at all in the bible. And how do you know I don't talk to God? I talk to God on a regular basis, and I go to church. All your theories about how gay people need to find God get blown right out of the water, because a lot of us ARE God fearing, God loving people who pray on a regular basis.

Straights have "pride parades" frequently, coast to coast. It has just never occurred to them to call them such. Lighten up - it wasn't all that long ago that police were arresting people just for looking gay.

I can relate to your view point. I lived in Salinas many years,(Oak Hills). Left there 6 years ago for all the reasons you described. Things are much worse now than when I left. Wonder what the situation in Salinas will be like in another few years of being a liberal sanctuary city.

How many moderates, or conservatives live in Salinas now, about 3?

Amazing... truly amazing. This is the kind of intolerance and ignorance I would expect somewhere else (like the Deep South or rural Midwest), but not in our wonderful state. Salinas would do well to shake its redneck image and hop onboard the 21st century.

Why do so many self-proclaimed "christians" always have so much hatred toward others? Why can't people allow others to lead their lives and just stay away if you don't agree?

Why? Because they all feel if they go after others maybe all their own faults and failings won't be so obvious. Instead they show themselves to be hypocrites and haters. And this goes for all those pretend "christian" church leaders - shouldn't they be showing leadership, comapassion and caring rather than their hypocrisy? My God tells me everyone was created in HIS/HER image. Everyone. No Exceptions. These"leaders" say 'everyone is equal EXCEPT for the following types.' WRONG - NO exceptions!

Even our Constitution says all men are created equal. We now mostly agree that includes women. But some people still want exceptions to the word ALL.

Having grown up in the area and having to deal with my own sexuality in such a closed and repressive atmosphere I am entirely qualified to state that the Monterey Bay Area should be ashamed of itself for the bigoted and intolerant atmosphere it continues to foster in regard to gay rights. To equate all gays and lesbians with NAMBLA members is a total affront and wrapping this message up in Christian dogma shows an utter disrespect for God, who is all-loving and all-accepting.
Looking at my own family, who are "good" Catholics, it's ironic that the gay couples have stayed together longer than their straight counterparts who have chalked up numerous divorces, abortions and bastard children. Now, whose lifestyle is depraved? Just based on the facts, it doesn't seem to be the gay ones...

I just don't understand the motivation for these unkind comments. Depravities? Defecation in the streets? What on earth are you talking about? Where is your imagination taking you? I am a loving mother of two young daughters. Our house is the place in the neighborhood where all of the children want to come to play in the afternoons. We do crafts, make silly dinners, read books. And I am a gay woman. I have always taught my children that everyone is different—that men can fall in love with men, and women can fall in love with women. I knew that my children would meet people in their lives who might feel uncomfortable with the fact that their mommy is gay. That’s why it has been so important to me to find opportunities to take my girls with me to events where they can see and be around other happy healthy families with gay parents. I am thankful that there are people willing to volunteer their time to put together such opportunities for me and my children. Thank you Salinas!
