Late checkout leads to arrests for forgery, drugs

Two Price motel guests who didn't check out on time and didn't respond to calls wound up lodged at Carbon County Jail instead. Their arrest had nothing to do with overstaying their visit at the motel.

One dead in central Utah coal mine cave-in

A Carbon County sheriff's dispatcher said the 911 call reporting the incident came in at 1:35 a.m. Tuesday from the West Ridge Mine near the community of East Carbon and about 20 miles east of Price.

Joshua Call, 33, was arrested Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, after Price police say they found evidence of a "sophisticated forgery operation" inside the honeymoon suite at a Super 8 Motel where they had been summoned to check on the welfare of Call and Rebecca Jimenez.

A rusty chunk of Carbon history leaves for Nevada

A motorcar that was originally sent to Carbon County to send passengers to and from Hiawatha in 1917, and has been sitting in a field south of Price for the last 22 years, left the county for Nevada and a new life on Tuesday. The motorcar will be taken to Carson City, Nev., where it will be restored and then it will be shipped a few miles south to Mindon, Nev., where it will be displayed along with buildings and other relics of the same era.

Manslaughter charge filed in Price overdose death

Alejandra "Ally" Dunn, 27, is charged in 7th District Court with distribution of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony, and manslaughter, a second-degree felony. Carbon County prosecutors allege that Dunn illegally provided Anthony Joseph Compton with the prescription painkillers that caused him to overdose and die on Aug. 3, 2013.

Man accused of robbing Price store pleads guilty to federal gun charge

Dominic Mathew Martinez pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court to brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. Martinez, 28, used a handgun to commit the Nov. 26, 2013, armed robbery of the Smith's store in Price, according to charging documents.
