TOPEKA | Throughout much of this year's debate on immigration reform, a law giving children of illegal immigrants in-state tuition at state colleges has been the elephant in the room.
It has been a contentious fight before: Two years ago the House saw one attempt to repeal the law after another. Each failed.
The 2004 law gives those children in-state tuition at state colleges and universities if they attend at least three years at and graduate from a Kansas high school and can show they are on a path to citizenship. Some 240 such students currently enjoy the benefit. Read more
