What is the main point in this article? To feel bad for those families that will miss this project? I see... a human interest story!
Or is it that this program is not worth the tax dollars invested in it. The Bush Administration tried to cut it without success. Why didn't Ms. Pionzio provide more insight into statistics to support it's viability? According to Education Secretery Arne Duncan, The Education Department would save $550 million in 2010 by ending 12 programs including Even Start, the National Institute for Literacy and school mentoring initiatives, according to the budget proposal, which must be approved by Congress. “Research on every single one of these has determined that they haven’t been effective enough in meeting their goals,” Duncan said.“We’ll be able to address the needs through other programs here at the Department of Education.” My point: another pointless article. |
