Kalamazoo-area runners will have the option to run two new fall races along with an old favorite this fall with the new Greater Kalamazoo Fall Trail Run Series. The series, presented by Kalamazoo Area Runners, introduces the new Jack-O-Lantern 5K and 10K Trail Run and the Impact Trail Run, and brings back the Turkey Trot Prediction 5K Run.

A Van Buren County Sheriff's deputy was on patrol at about 11:50 p.m. when he saw a Chevy Tahoe speeding and driving left of the center line in the 23000 block of County Road 388 in Pine Grove Township. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, a chase ensued, according to a news release.
Angel Nicole Brown, 25, of Burr Oak Street, was sentenced to 68 days in jail, three years of probation and ordered to pay attorney fees and state fees for possession of less than 25 grams of a controlled substance as a third-time habitual offender in July in Kalamazoo. Shelton Capers, 35, of Monticello Avenue, was sentenced to 15 days in jail, four years of probation, entry into the Swift and Sure Sanctions Program and ordered to pay state fees for delivery/manufacture of less than 50 grams of a controlled substance in May in Portage.
The Portage council had narrowed the semifinalists list to six candidates, but one person dropped out, city officials said today. The council has also set times for public interviews of each candidate Wednesday, Sept.

Portage Public Safety police and fire units responded to the accident at 6:56 a.m. in the 5100 block of South Westnedge Avenue, near Meijer, according to a news release. Police say a 23-year-old woman, driving a passenger car, was turning left into a private drive from northbound South Westnedge.
A teenager only suffered minor injuries on Wednesday morning, after she turned her car in to the path of an oncoming train, resulting in a crash. Democratic state Rep. Sean McCann more than doubled the fundraising total of his next closest opponent during the latest election cycle in his run bid for the 20th Senate District seat. McCann, D-Kalamazoo, is one of three candidates seeking to replace incumbent Tonya Schuitmaker, R-Antwerp Township , as she runs for the newly formed 26th Senate District.
