Currituck commissioners agreed this week to oppose an option for the Currituck Mid-County Bridge that state officials say would save $60 million but residents of the Aydlett community believe would disrupt their quality of life.

Currituck Board of Commissioners unanimously denied a request last week to establish a 15.3-acre multi-family overlay district in Poplar Branch, after several board members vocalized concern about the project's density.

The body of a woman missing in the Currituck Sound since late Saturday was found around 11 a.m. Monday morning by a commercial fisherman, said Sandy Casey, chief deputy for the Currituck County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities have suspended the search for a North Carolina woman who went missing while she was swimming Saturday night in the Currituck Sound, the Coast Guard said Sunday.
