If you would like to see what these animals look like, go to sunsentinel.com

Disgusting animals. I hope the Judge treats them like adults as this poor child will carry these wounds for the rest of his life.

Part of the problem is AT the school.

Deerfield Beach Middle School is no less than a zoo run by impulse-driven, uncultured and unmannered pre-teens.

Parents must take responsibility for their children instead of abdicating responsibility and expecting teachers to do a parent's job!

That means if your child is caught having sex in the bathroom, you leave work to come pick your child up instead of being unavailable.

If your child cusses at a teacher, gets caught stealing, or is fighting with another student, you drop whatever it is you are doing and come get your kid.

Then you stick by the rules you laid down. Otherwise, you're just raising another problem who will hurt other people and we will have to remove from the community and pay for to sit in jail.

OMG how the hel* could they do this???????? What kind of animals are they? Put them and their parents UNDER the jail. Little bastards, they obviously have absolutely no respect for anything if they have no respect for life. I'd like to get my hands on their parents. I can only imagine how the victim's Mom must feel. I'm a mom and I know what I'd want to do to someone who hurt my kid!!!!! Disgusting POSs don't deserve to breath the air civilized people breath.

I did look up the pictures on sunsentinel. Where are the younger ones parents? I never saw a picture of young ones getting arraigned in court. Very disturbing!! Three of them look like 12 year olds. What does a 13 year old know about consequences unless they are taught or...they learn the hard way. It is a SHAME when the parents have to learn how pathetic their parenting skills are through the suffering of their little ones. Not always the parents fault. Some children will rebel no matter what. But clearly, not enough positive influence in these kids life.

The problem is not at the school but at home. The paragraph starting with Parents must take responsibility.... says it all. The school can only do so much. When the child is suspended and parents leave them at home to "run a muck" then the child has learned NOTHING other then; get into trouble & then get 3-5 "free days" to lunge around and do what ever it is they want.

What needs to happen is their parents NEED to be arrested. They should be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor; child neglect, etc. When that finally happens and ONLY then will these parents start taking responsibility.

You hit the bulls-eye with your comment on parenting. So true!

Parents that are "busy" are parents that are not available, that's for sure. The so-called 2-income households are also a reason for the growing parent-child dis-connect. Parents need to raise their own children; that means spending time with them while they're still minors (i.e. mothers need to stay home).

Even the poor victim lives in a dysfunctional home, which further confirms a report stating that about 70% of crime victims live high-risk lifestyles.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult for a family to survive on 1 income these days. These kids are too old for day-care, however, why are there no after school activities? The Jarvis Brothers have an older sister. Where was she when this happened?

If it was a black kid burned by white kids, Al Sharpton would be on the next flight down here to put someone in the "Al Sharpton Jail".......

Notice how the media didn't mention that 3 of the 5 kids charged with this are black, and the other 2 are latino.

I guess it's not politically correct to even suggest such a thing.

IT IS possible to survive on 1 income if people put their priorities in order. I'm a teacher (definitely not wealthy), and my wife (a stay-at-home mom) and I (along with our toddler) are doing fine.

We own our condo unit ... sure, we don't live in luxury, but there is nothing like the peace of knowing my son is being raised & influenced by his mother while I'm 8-10 hours at work!

You said you OWN your condo unit. Most people do not own their homes, that is why you can survive on 1 salary. Also your job provides Health Insurance for your family. You are a lucky man. I had to work as my husband's job (restaurant manager) did NOT provide Health Insurance.

Restaurant managing is definitely a tough job, definitely deserving good health insurance. I'm sorry. It's the type of job that keeps you away from 10-12 hours at a time, right?

I think Carl Hiaasen is funny, too! My little boy loves peanut butter (especially on bread). Yes, I was looking at your profile.

Restaurant Managing can be a tough job. It does take you away from your family 10-12 hours per day. No insurance, even when my husband worked in Macy's food department.

My brother was held hostage many years ago when he managed a Beefsteak Charlie's restaurant in NYC. The criminals hid in the Men's room and popped out with guns blazing after the restaurant closed.

I hope those criminals are tormented in prison now; I hope the same fate for the kids who burned the Deerfield kid.

Is your brother still working in restaurants? Have YOU ever worked in restaurants? I have ... well, sort of ... delivering pizzas when I was younger. I'm thankful I never saw crimes or was victimized while doing this.
