Full story: Inland Valley Daily Bulletin

For all intents and purposes, the Pomona Auto Center is no more, but efforts are under way to give the area new life as a retail center.

THIS CITY WILL NOT BE BETTER BECAUSE OF A BIG BOX STORE. YOU CANNOT GET BETTER IF YOU HAVE THE SAME PROCESS OF THROWING MONEY AWAY OR INTO THE POCKETS OF YOUR FRIENDS(CONTRACTORS, CITY OFFICIALS. ETC.) THEN CLAIMING THERE IS NO MONEY FOR THE CITY. MAYBE ANOTHER RIO RANCHO MALL WILL FIT IN REALLY NICE THERE. WHEN STATER BROS(SOUTH) AND ALBERTSONS (PHILLIPS RANCH) LEFT DID ANYBODY TRY TO GET THOSE BUILDINGS UP AND RUNNING? REVENUE RUNS THE CITY BUT IT NEVER GETS PASSED YOUR HANDS. BRING STATER BROS TO PHILLIPS RANCH SO TAX MONEY CAN COME FROM THE SURROUNDING AREAS(DIAMOND BAR). IS FOX A SPANISH FIRST THEATRE? HOW DID THAT OUTLET MALL AT THE 60/71 INTERSECTION WORK FOR YOU? WITH ALL THE TRAFFIC THAT GOES THRU THERE, YOUR BIG BOX STORES WILL BE IN A BETTER PLACE LIKE THIS CITY SHOULD BE. HOW ABOUT THE OLD TOYS R US OR THE OFFICE MAX BUILDING? HOW MUCH TAX ARE WE COLLECTING FROM ALL THOSE EMPTY BUILDINGS NOW? HOW ABOUT ANOTHER INDIAN HILLS MALL ON THE CORNER OF ELEVENTH AND WHITE WHERE NORMAN TORRES LET HER FIREFRIENDS PLAY WITH MATCHES? DID ANY OF THE RESIDENTS DOWNWIND GET MASK OR OXYGEN WHILE THE ASBESTOS WAS BURNING? WHAT DO YOU SAY?

The best use for that land is real simple:

First start with the lot Gary and Rio Rancho along with the housing tract and clear that out. The area to the south should be a mixture of retail like Target, Kohls, and a real Office Depot along with maybe 24 hour fitness. The rest of the land could be used for multi level affordable housing and a man made lake/resivor for much needed place to store fresh water for this city.

People in Pomona can't afford Target. The income levels are not high enough. People in Chino and Chino Hills won't come to Pomona to shop at Target when Chino already has 2 Targets.

Stater Bros locates anywhere, upscale and downscale neighborhoods yet Staters left that area. If the area can't support the likes of a Stater Bros., theres no way in hell they can support a Target. People in Diamond Bar won't shop at a Pomona Target as well, as they have their own Target.

If The City Council and staff want to attract a wide range of customers to this proposed new center, it should not put the Pomona name to it ..that will only scare people away. What an outrageously dumb idea when the City named the new shopping center within Phillips Ranch, the "Pomona Ranch Plaza" (What's a Pomona Ranch?). The Council keeps catering to the lowest common denominator and that is what it will end up with. Look what you did with the Shops you created at the junction of Mission and the 71 expressway, what a monumental waste of funds. You have a nice area in P.R., take advantage of that reputation before that area is also ruined through your poor decisions.

Lets get real and recognize the nearby neighborhoods and customer base. How about a megaplex with a bull fighting ring, cock fights, flea market ... maybe a combination of all of the above?

Pomona is living a pipe dream here. It will be years if ever that that area will be developed.

Pomona needs to take advantage of the NFL stadium being built very close by if it happens. This area near the Pomona and 71 freeways should be a high-rise hotel zone. Pomona sure could use all that revenue. If Pomona doesn't create a zone like this another city will, and Pomona would lose tons of money. Come on Pomona, don't blow this chance if we get a major stadium built literaly next door!

One word... Casinos! Pomona would benefit an so would the people who live there. With the new NFL stadium nearly wrapped up, you can't go wrong. This is sink or swim for Pomona

There is only one shot for this land and most other large areas of land in Pomona. Poker room casino's like they were going to do 10 years ago. Put it on the ballots again, spend some money to promote it, and get the former law overturned. Anything else in this are or any of the other failed vacant lots in Pomona is a waste of city funds and shouldn't be done. Pomona has not shot. People won't go to Pomona from other cities to shop, and they won't go to Pomona to do much of anything. People in other cities know they are risking their lives traveling into Pomona not only due to the crime, but also because you risk being hit by a drunk or unlicensed driver. Why risk it at all? You don't have too and that's why Pomona is dying. People avoid that city like the plague. Realize that the city will be low income, illegal aliens, and rampant crime forever. Reality is tough but it's oh so apparent. The hope is gone, so don't waste the small dollars left in the city coffers on ideas that just aren't going to work.

If they go foward with this stu[id plan it will end up like the Gen. Dynamics plan. More money thrown away. This is a blighted area and won't attract people from surrounding communities to shop when they have the same stores in their own neighborhoods and can shop in relative safety.Pomona Voter has a great idea,A Truck Stop!!!This would attract truck dealers to set up shop in some of the existing buildings.I'm sure Carrisoza won't care much for the idea she probably preferes the bull and cock fighting arenas,swap-meets,tire stores, pawn shops,etc..

Or just make it one huge 24 hour checkpoint. That would clean up that southside shit hole a little. God Pomona really is a joke.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Capricorn

Mercury retrograde in your sign will cause some friction between you and other people during coming weeks. Matters that have been bubbling away in the background will come to the boil, forcing you to do something about them. Try not to overreact, nor to create a crisis out of something that's really very minor. You should also keep a strong sense of fair play and pay attention to every little detail.
