POMONA >> Long before they reached the Village Conference Center, a group of Pomona Unified students looked for information on the reasons for the rise in the number of Central Americans leaving their countries and the dangers of traversing Mexico as they try to reach the United States. With their work complete, more than 200 high school students from the School of Extended Educational Opportunities and Pomona, Village Academy and Park West high schools gathered at the conference center on Friday to discuss their findings before listening to a well-known advocate for Central American immigrants.

Firefighters first responded about 7:40 p.m. to a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian at Holt Avenue, west of White Avenue, Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Kyle Sanford said. Man pleads not guilty to killing girlfriend with heroin overdose

A 36-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to charges he killed his girlfriend with a fatal injection of heroin while she was being treated for an infection at a Pomona hospital. Steven Crow was charged Monday with one count each of murder and offering to sell a controlled substance in the 2012 death of his girlfriend, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said in a statement.
