This is a big mistake. This guy has ZERO municipal government experience. Being in charge of a two-bit economic "partnership" does not lend itself to the rigors of being a Village Administrator/Manager. Plainfield again shows itself as a small time village trying to deal with big time development. This should have been a national search and not a breakfast at the diner on Van Dyke Road meeting with the good old boys club.

Well, give them a little credit. The last time they did do an national search that cost 50k, they picked Minick who was sitting right in that very office.

That said, you are correct in that the choice is a bit scary. Add to that this guy doesn't live in Plainfield and doesn't have to as the board waived that for this guy doesn't sit well with me.

Stop your lyin', Mike!!! Now, you KNOW that they probably had to spend 15k on a study to find out if they even NEEDED to do a national search. So, that would bring the total cost spent to $65k!

;)

question is, is he going to live in town or is he going to be like most of the staff and live outside the village, so they have a quick getaway when they have destroyed downtown even more..

Unfortunately, looks like the second half of your statement is the correct one.

So, what's next on our agenda, Tony, now that we won't be able to complain about vehicle stickers? Hey maybe we can we discuss the ghost of the vehicle sticker past (afterall, we'll all be driving around with sticky squares on our windshields where the stickers used to be).

thanks mike.. well like it was said.. let the destruction continue by outsiders.. lol.. like it was said before.. the residents have to bear the responsiblity for letting these officals.. be employed and not required to live in town.. if they did, maybe better planning would be done.. and less destruction..

The reason most Plainfield staff don’t live in the Village is because they can’t afford to do so. While the administrator makes a good buck (in my opinion); the planners, support staff and numerous others don’t make huge salaries. Do a little research and you’ll see that government work is secure, but hardly lucrative. You’ll see the same situation in any community with higher price points for homes like Naperville, Orland Park, or Homer Glen. (And no, I don’t work for the village.)

We are talking about the Village Admin who makes over 100k a year. He can afford to live in Plfd but chooses not to.

Mike --- You may have been talking about the administrator, but if you read the whole forum, it references ALL staff

But the title of the thread is about the administrator, who I believe makes about $150K (right, Mike?). Plus, if he's living in Naperville now, Plainfield is a step down, so he should realistically be able to afford a better house if he relocates to Plainfield.
I think that anyone who's in a "high-profile" position, such as the Village Administrator", should have to relocate within a year. Enough with destroying the place, then moving on (not that I'm saying this is what Chris Minick did). I like what Chris Minick's dedication to trying to get us a hospital, even after he announced his resignation. Thanks, Chris!

Plainfield is not so exclusive and expensive as to not have housing that most village employees can afford. Plainfield does have some high cost homes, but it also has plenty that is very affordable.

There is no reason that everyone in a supervisory position cannot live in the village. Those who are leading the city and running on a daily basis should live there.

I agree with Crest Hill. If you are going to be responsible for a Village department, you should live in the Village. All of Plainfield's Dept. heads make over 80k a year, with a few making close to 100k. I believe the Police Chief is at the high end. He makes around 105k a year. They're doing okay. They can afford to live in the Village.

I'm not sure the exact amount that the village admin makes, but I think it's around $130,000. PM, once again I agree with you that a "high profile" official should live in the Village.

Here's a thought: If the village admin makes over 100k and the mayor makes less than 50k, should we elect a mayor who lives outside the village?

You're right, Mike. In fact, right in the article it states that he's going to make $125,000. I do think that Chris Minick made $150,000 though. I don't think they are going to have anybody crying in their beers that they can't afford to live here for a measly $150,000 a year. Try to convince people, who already live here, where the average median income is around $80,000. I don't think you'll get too much sympathy.
