Helene Klein Pineland Preserve opens in Coconut Creek
“There were other people who were actively involved as she and this is the culmination of all their efforts.”
Helene Klein had a penchant for saving fields, forests, wetlands and swamps.
Until her death in 2001, the Fort Lauderdale resident worked relentlessly to garner public support, which helped force Broward County to change what some considered a developer friendly, pave-it-over attitude, environmentalists say.
Her efforts to preserve nature paid off recently with the opening of the Helene Klein Pineland Preserve, a passive park meant for quieter moments.
If she were here, 'She'd be saying well, it's a good start because if she had her way she would have had all of Florida in a wild condition,' her brother, Harold Klein, said at the Feb. 1 ribbon-cutting ceremony. Read more
