Mayors, council members and recorders were elected by many communities in West Virginia on Tuesday, but not by many voters.

Tuesday is municipal Election Day in many local communities in West Virginia. Voters in Bethany, Bethlehem, Follansbee, Friendly, Hundred, Middlebourne, Pine Grove, Valley Grove, Wellsburg and Smithfield, W.Va., will elect town officials such as mayor, recorder and council members.

Senator Jay Rockefeller announced today that schools and libraries across West Virginia are being awarded a total of $5,485,236 to assist students and members of the community with access to the Internet.

The area now has another title up for grabs. This Saturday will mark the area's inaugural Miss and Mister TNT Pageant.

Melinda Steortz, a woman familiar to the Wetzel County Sheriff's Department, was behind bars Tuesday on a felony charge, and Sheriff James Hoskins said additional counts are pending.
