Sad that a bear lost his/her life. This Redwood Run was really frustrating for me. Last year, we dealt with the phones going down in Laytonville where I work. The cellphone use froze all the outgoing lines. Working in a pharmacy, it's difficult to go without phones. This year the phones stayed on but there were bikers who didn't follow stop sign rules, etc. It's annoying to the people who have the right of way on a highway - leaving 101 to go west - to have to give up their right of way because 10 seperate bikers kept ignoring their stopsign to enter 101 going south. It is also dangerous. I know if I were to do the same thing in my GEO car, I'd have been handed a ticket with a smile. Ah, well. It brings money to the community, I guess.

MD you are absolutely correct. You know what else bring money to the community?

I know, boy do I know. It sure isn't my paycheck! Haha! Still feel really bad about that bear. Whoever did it should be ashamed.

"whoever did it should be ashamed".... It's unbelievable that people just assume it was some reckless driver with no concern for wildlife. The bear ran out onto Hwy 101 in front of a motorcycle and almost killed a man. He's lucky to be alive and home with his family and kids. YOU should be ashamed for being a thoughtless inconsiderate jerk when you don't even know any details.

You should be ashamed for being just as thoughtless and a jerk because you don't know the details, either. And also, because you came in blazing guns of total jerkiness by calling people names, twit. Besides it was a boar, not a bear. Thoughtless inconsiderate animals!! Facing off against people on ~highly maneuverable~ vehicles that have tons of horse power. The nerve of some animals!! Not to mention: the boars, elk, bear and large cats have the NERVE to LIVE up here. Don't they know they should get away from bikers who drive up here once a year? They have no right to be living their lives (or trying to) while people eat up dwindling petrochemicals for fun. Jerky, jerky animals. Oh yea!! and the nerve of people who have the right of way on highways, too!! Jerks, inconsiderate right of way hillbillies living up in the Mendo woods!! When will they realize that the highways are for the rich sobs coming up from the city. To put all those unnecessary global warming fumes into our air. What right do those leftwing hillbillies have to be ticked off about unsafe bikers sucking up the gas, and leaving their pollution. I mean really... stop signs, schmop signs, right? Money buys a lot of privilege in this, you know. In this world, money can buy anything... even clothes made by child/slaves, oil bought by blood and the right to kill animals who happen to be in their way. Shame on you (again) for starting a flame. Why do you read this newspaper anyway? Don't you have an SUV to drive around? Maybe run over a rabbit or two? Take your high horse and ride away.. oh yea, you'd probably shoot it for a pair of boots or something....

Actually, I DO know the details. It was my brother and it was a black bear. Although, it is unfortunate that a bear died I am happy that my brother lived to raise his kids. If THAT makes me a thoughtless jerk and a "twit" than so be it. I suppose you would surrender your family member to save a bear. Of course, that is your choice.

Dear Melaine, I've thought about yours and my earlier posts. As you obviously have a difficult time with reality I'll spell it out. I was being sarcastic. I'm willing to bet your neighbors refer to you as the crazy lady. You are also a hypocrite. You whine about people that spend the weekend, most of which stay in tents. They drive bikes that get better fuel milage than your car. Yet you stay there year round? Hello! You are part of an industry that pollutes the aquifer with drugs that have passed through peoples systems and into fish, frogs ect. Who has the greatest impact on the enviroment there? You, darling! Yes, there is a different address on this post. I get around. By the way I work in an industry that saves large amounts of energy with it's product.

Thank you, Laurie. We had a great time at the run.
Northern California is a wonderful place. My wife got her degrees at Humboldt State and we still have friends there.
You know I've been a little tough on Melanie. Maybe she's just upset 'cause none of the Redwood Run riders offered to trade her any beads...

Actually I wasn't reading over the weekend! Dearest Eric, I was being very, very sarcastic in my reply to the lovely Lady Dunn. I don't disagree with how we all pollute. Especially RX drugs in the water. Very sad. Still, it's my job to give people their meds. How they dispose of them, it's out of my hands. My car does make a lot of pollution. I salve this wound by the idea that my driving stops a bunch of other people driving to Willits for medication. There are things we all can do to stop global warming. One thing is to give up unnecessary trips in our vehicles. One thing I did was stop going to the ocean all the time. It's not fun but then again, neither is global warming. Of course I did not receive any beads or other gifts from the bikers. I don't take gifts from strangers. Especially male strangers. It's okay if you want to flame me or say nasty things. It shows much more about you, than it does about me. Well wishes, tofu and all of that!

Deborah, I am glad and was very surprised to see the biker survived this terrible accident. We were the ones (bikers) who stopped and moved the bear out of the road, what a shame for everyone involved. I mean how close your brother was to missing him, it looked to me like the bear got swiped in his/her mouth (teeth on the road), and broke his neck. I haven't stopped thinking about the bear and your brother of course. Like I said I am very grateful your brother is alive (one hell fo a story), but at the same time, this really is a terrible crime.
As for Melanie, you can't change ignorant hillbillies like that. I am from so hum, been there done that lifestyle, now I live in the bay.
Ride safe and watch out for those bikers (lol)
